Will Google send a new phone?

I bought a Pixel to use Project fi internationally. Google gave me their blessing, told me they'd take care of me while out of the country. The phone is defective: sometimes the mic works, sometimes not. The screen may respond--or not. Calls go to VM before the end of the first ring. It sometimes makes calls on wifi, sometimes uses international rates. Fi agents agree the phone needs to be replaced under warranty, but say they can't ship internationally. People have posted on the forum that they are $500 in for shipping and customs charges, and that's before sending the defective phone back. There's no overriding reason to have Project fi if one is not traveling internationally. And it seems obvious Google got a batch of bad phones. So why does a company with a bazillion dollars not bite the bullet and make its customers happy? Has anyone found a way to get Google to eat the shipping for a defective phone? Thanks for any help you can give.

They ship for free in the USA. I am not sure if you bought the phone in USA and then took it overseas. Try escalating it to a supervisor via chat or phone call and see they can help you. Good luck.
