I was in Staples buying some ring notebooks yesterday & they had an Apple pay sensor on top of their credit card swiper. I tried to pay with my Moto X(2014), which has a working Google Wallet app. which I have used for a while. It was refused! :( Any way the 2 can work together or will every franchise have to chose between the 2?

They're incompatible. You need to find machines that take Google Wallet: https://support.google.com/wallet/answer/2466137?hl=en. Google is making another big push to expand Google Wallet acceptance among businesses. Having two different systems would not be that surprising--after all, there are multiple different credit card companies available, not just one unified credit card.

Any Apple Pay terminal should take Google Wallet - it's just an NFC reader, there's nothing proprietary in there.

Why this one failed? Who knows, I have a 50% success rate at best with those things. Even the same terminal will work one day and not the next.

The NFC reader can read it, but doesn't it still have to be compatible with the payment system?

Nope the background stuff is all the same. Apple's proprietary tech is all in the phone handset itself.

You can use Google Wallet at the Apple Store is you really want to. :)

Some machines specifically refuse blink (nfc) debit MasterCard. In this case Google wallet would be rejected.

With Google Wallet you can get the Google Wallet Card that will allow you to manage the payment methods on it via the Wallet App, so you don't have to store any cc information on your phone and you can change the payment option on the fly.

So you are thinking can I add the Google Wallet Card to Apple pay, sadly no. Apple strictly controls what banks are on Apple Pay and the bank behind Google Wallet isn't allowed. They also won't accept PayPal or the PP Debit/credit cards either. Apple is a petulant child, when they don't get their way they take their toys home.

In my opinion having used both I stopped Apple Pay after a few tries, and Google Wallet card works well for what I need to do.
