Will it work on AT&T LTE Network?

AT&T's system recognized the Nexus 4 and will recognize the Nexus 5 and apply the appropriate data plan, so order away.

Alright im a noob so my question is do I just pop in my sim from my Note 2 and the billing will be the same and automatically have lte enabled?

Correct. Your billing is tied to your SIM card, not phone. You may or maynot need to configure the correct APN for LTE data. We will know once we get the phone.

You are saying AT&T's system change and they do recognize the Nexus 4 now? Because when it first came out it did not recognize mine back in last December/January. So they will recognize my IMEI now as being in their system?

There is no advantage for your IMEI being recognized by AT&T. It is only used by AT&T to enforce smartphone data plans. If your IMEI is not recognized, you can use any cheaper data plan or you don't need to use data plan at all.

If you want to use LTE data, however, you will need a data plan with LTE enabled on it. But that's not related to the IMEI being recognized or not. If you already have an existing LTE smartphone with AT&T, you simply swap the SIM card, it should work on N5 without problem (assume APNs are set up automatically or correctly).

This is very good and correct information ^^^^

ATT recognized the N4?? This means that google sends a list of IMEI #'s to ATT to identify their phones. Unfortunate. I was considering running on a data card plan in the future and using VOIP for calls. If they have the IMEI's in a list, they will enforce a voice calling plan.

Yep, I just talked with AT&T today thinking they would be able to change it and they still won't give me Dataplan for 4G Smartphones (because my IMEI) for my Nexus 4 and instead still giving me the Dataplan for Smartphones. So I doubt i'll be able to get the correct one if I get the Nexus 5.

I also asked if I got the Nexus 5, if I could get my plan changed from Dataplan for Smartphone to 4G LTE dataplan and they said yes.

"ME: Thanks. I'll consider those. Now if I do get the LG Nexus 5, would you be able to change my data plan to 4G LTE? Can you check?

(AT&T): Yes we can, by the way. Do you know any retail store that is selling that equipment so far? You can actually activate it on your line if you already have one, just don't forget to drop by on any Corporate store to get a sim and process the activation at the same time."

I just don't get why they can change my plan for the Nexus 5 but not the Nexus 4?

Because the rep(s) you spoke to last time were clueless. Honestly most are.

Borrow an AT&T LTE smartphone from a friend and put in your SIM. Call AT&T to switch the data plan. Take the SIM card out and return the phone to your friend. Now you can use the SIM card in whatever phones you wish. It is a just a data plan on your account. Once you get it, you will not loss it regardless which phone you use.

The only thing you need to remember is that you need to use the correct APN for LTE. AT&T has different APNs for data only, 3G, 4G HSPA+, 4G LTE.

Thanks. Last time I had to do that, it was horrible. I was switching from iPhone 4 to Nexus 4 and they just didn't get it and wouldn't give me a dummy IMEI. Something about it wasn't an AT&T phone they wouldn't do it for me.I never really got the HSPA+ on the Nexus 4, always just HSPA. So this is why I haven't ordered the Nexus 5 yet because I don't want to have to go though this all over again and them telling me that they won't do it.

Should I still order the Nexus 5?

Do you have an LTE account at ATT with a current SIM card on that account, then yes. Where I have seen issues is when you are coming to ATT and change your account to an LTE account and then try to use a phone without IMEI's loaded, like a Nexus device. Saw with with several people coming to ATT with the S4 Google edition. I just put my SIM in from my regular phone and it worked fine.

And it is just a matter of time before the IMEI's are loaded so it pays to get the proper plan up front.

I don't, my current plan is Data for Smartphone. I had the Iphone 4 last dec and had the iphone data plan when i switched to Nexus 4 and they changed it to data for smartphone. So when I get the Nexus 5 in a week or so, the ATT rep i talked to on Friday said they could change it to the 4G LTE data plan when I get the Nexus 5. So we'll see if it happens.

When ever someone goes to do this tomorrow, please post how easy or difficult it is. I plan to leave sprint and sign up for AT&T on Tuesday with my new Nexus 5 that is coming tomorrow.

I am getting my Nexus 5 today when I get into work. I have already purchased my GoPhone (AT&T). I signed up with GoPhone on Friday. My co worker also has a GoPhone sim and he is currently using on his HTC One. His nexus is also coming in today.

Very very odd.

The issue if I understand it right is that at&t is unable to detect via the IMEI Nexus 4 and thus is unable to add the correct "type" of DATA plan a customers account.

In my case, I had to call up with the IMEI of a colleague's Infuse 4G and only after reading her the IMEI of the Infuse was she able to provision my account for 4G (non-LTE) DATA.

It is my understanding if I want 4G LTE DATA I am going to have to borrow a colleague's S4 and read the agent its IMEI and only after her CPU recognizes the at&t branded S4 will she be able to provision my account with 4G LTE DATA.

Unless at&t was clued in by Google (it is possible, but not probable) at&t will not recognize the IMEI of Nexus 5 and will not be able to automatically configure them for LTE DATA.

I just moved my SIM from my Nexus 4 to the Nexus 5 and am only seeing HSPA+, no LTE so it looks like this is going to be a process. Also I had hoped to be able to swap the SIM between the 4 and the 5 and back again at times. Sounds like AT&T may have issues with this.

Nexus 4 has no LTE. So the data plan you have is only provisioned to HSPA+. You will need the LTE data plan and also LTE APN. But you should have no problem moving other ways: using LTE data plan on HSPA+ only phone as long as you keep the APN on Nexus 4 unchanged.

LTE APN Is PTA. HSPA+ APN is Phone. IIRC.

So in theory my iPhone 5 sim with at&t will work without a hitch. (need a nano to micro sim adapter but that SHOULD be it)
