Will LG v30 get android 10? Or is Galaxy a30 better bet?

As per the above.

Im looking at a new 6GB V30.

I wish the cameras were better in low light, but what can you do. I think DXO are idiotic for including bokeh and telephoto but not wide angle, which is what keeps marking down the LGs. Who wants fake Bokeh? If I want Telephoto I will crop or use my camera.

In saying that the size of the pixels, 1.0um is kind of tiny which means not much to work with in low light despite the f1.7 arperture.

The main thing that concerns me is how many updates does this phone have left, will it get OS 10 and will it get security patches passed there?

It is $120AU (not US) more than the Galaxy a30 which is very similar but nowhere near as powerful or as high quality in all regards but is starting out at 9.0.

If the v30 isnt going to get many more updates then perhaps its not the best value for me.

If you're not doing anything risky (pirating apps, visiting shady websites, randomly clicking email links, etc), the chances of being infected with malware are minimal. I also like to base my purchases on what the phone currently runs on, not what hypothetical updates it gets later down the road. If you like the V30 compared to the a30, I wouldn't have any problem buying it.

I'm using the V20 and still on 7.0, and have been refusing the Oreo update. There's nothing that really excites me about Oreo or even Pie, and I've had bad luck with version updates either taking away wanted features or glitching and causing problems. That means I'm also not getting security updates, but I'm safe with my activities and don't feel I'm missing out being behind.

Well this raises a point, why is a new build any more safer just because it gets security updates which may be rolled out long after the security issue is known? Its a bit of a con really Android, 2-3 updates and your phone is dead. Thats more money than 95% of consumers can afford (statement not a factual percentage).

So there is no chance v30 will get Android Q/10? I always thought every model got 3 updates clearly not.

And Android One, but a semi decent midrange OLED phone in your range on the A30 budget price. I really do miss the locked down nature of Win 10 mobile and how it ran on next to nothing hardware.

But yes I would like the V30 with the 10nm processor, better GPU and 6GB ram (more apps open than 4-6 large ones before they get buffered),

If the v30 does not get 10, is Lineage an option? Or will it lose quad dac, cine log, 4 quality mics, hdr10 display etc? Or do they try to keep the phpnes features in a lineage specific roll out?

I went with the a30, I couldnt afford the extra $200 it turned out for the v30. a shame as it was the 6GB model. well when i have more money i can always upgrade. probably lose half the value the a30 though. but thats life

1. The V30 came out with 7, and updated to 8. It has, or probably will have, 9. The only phones that get 3 years of updates that I know of are Google's.

2. If someone tries to hack your phone 2 years after the security patch that blocks the particular hack he's trying, the phone is safe. If he tries before the hack is issued, it isn't. It's the same with antivirus and antimalware programs? Why use them? If someone gets you to click on a malware link the day before the app you're using is updated, you get the malware.

It's an armaments race. All you can do is to try to keep ahead of things, you can't even be sure that the day a phone is released there isn't some malware out there that it's susceptible to.

3, The a30 is much less phone than the V30. It's also Samsung. But it comes in Dual SIM. And will probably get Q. So you have to balance all those things to decide which to get.

Bear in mind, also, that ROMs like Dirty Unicorns and Google Pixel Experience for the V30 will probably be updated to Q. (And they're pretty much AOSP.)

Im sure there is humour int here but I dont quite get what you mean? Slow in the Brain today.

So would an LG V35 Thinq get 18 months use left out of updates?

The A30 is gorgeous to look at, as good as any SAMOLED, yes 2k screens might help a bit but for practical terms its WAY better than LCD.

Id have to sell the A30, I wonder how much I will lose. It is brand new on the market and phone is 1 day old. Tough decision. I bought the A30 to get me through until the end of year as there are a lot of amazing phones coming out.

I might lose $100 on the A30 when I sell it in 9 months, but a new flagship costs $500 a year based on 3 years use. ie the P30 Pro is $1500 here.
