I honestly can't think of another reason for it.

"It increases screen area." O.k, but to what purpose?

"Can be used for notifications." At the expense of reduced notification area.

"No bezels." Increases false touches at the edges while simply trying to hold the phone, and hunting for cases to give you a defacto bezel to hold the phone by.

Yeah if you don't want Bixby, you can pretty much hang Samsung phones up. They've said they plan to have it on everything, including their appliances.

Total agreement with you there. This notch now turned to cutout holes on screens trend is getting ridiculous. Just when I was finally going to jump to Samsung....this happens. I'm really hoping that the Note 10 will have that new infinity screen that was announced couple months back.

Notch is what the Galaxy S10, iPhone X, one Plus, etc has. Some part of the display screen cut out so the screen has a camera lens imbedded. You see this when consuming video or video games. The cutout area will not show the content and will show the camera lens.
