Will PdaNet/Foxfi wireless tethering work for Sprint Samsung S4 non-rooted?

Bump...

Can anyone confirm if PdaNet and/or Foxfi works for the Sprint version Samsung S4 un-rooted?

Thanks! Casey

I do believe PDAnet will work, but FoxFi even says they have issues with Sprint phones. They do have free trial versions, if you want to see if it works.

I've not been able to get either to work. From what I've read you must root in order to use these apps.

I am not rooted and PDAnet works just fine in USB tether mode and bluetooth works as well. I have noticed a few weird quirks though. A few apps say there is no internet connection but browsing works just fine. I do have the paid version.

I'm unable to use the USB tether with PDAnet. The desktop program part of PDAnet recognizes the phone is attached but when I try to connect it hangs and says "Connecting to your phone (USB)..." I've tried using the Bluetooth option but the PDAnet software on my computer says there is no Bluetooth hardware when there is and my phone will sync via Bluetooth for file transfers and the like. I've enabled the USB Debugging and I've tried messing around with the tethering options.

On my old phone (HTC Epic 4G) I had to put the phone into charge only for it to work. The new GS4 doesn't have that option from what I read.

I appreciate the assistance!

PdaNet works fine using the USB cable on my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4, however you must reinstall PdaNet on the PC/laptop. This allows it to get the appropriate Samsung drivers.

I use pdanet on my Sprint GS4. works very well. I did a fresh install on my computer after loading it on my phone.

Are you referring to the USB cable for using PdaNet? Or are you referring to the wireless WIFI connection? I was hoping to use the WIFI wireless connection as opposed to using a USB cable from phone to laptop. Thanks, Casey

Actually, I was asking this question for a friend who has a new Sprint Samsung S4. He had an impossible time getting Foxfi to work because Sprint was blocking the app. But finally, he ended up going to someone who does rooting, and he got his new S4 rooted, and now he has (free) wireless wifi working on his phone so he's a happy camper now.

Glad your "friend" got his phone rooted, maybe you can teach your "friend" how to install and use the AC forum app too. What root method did your "friend" use and how did he enable the hotspot?

I had forgotten about foxfi, I re-installed it today (not rooted) works fine. I'm I upgrading to full version. I was paying $20 a month, I like free. I tried foxfi with the galaxy s 3 and couldn't get it to connect. Another positive, 4G started working at my house today. I use my wifi but still felt left out.

Does it work with wifi? Or do you have to use a usb or bluetooth?

Where did everyone get pdanet+? The play store won't download it to my GS4. My carrier (Sprint) won't allow it. Help!!

I use Foxfi on my GS4 and PDANet on my tablet, using bluetooth to connect one to the other. This method worked for me with my GS2 so tried it when I got my GS4 last week and successful.

one thing that hung me up is when you install pdanet make sure your phone is unplugged when it is installing drivers, the other, make sure it is connected as a camera. will not work when it is connected as a media device. ;)

I had a Motorola Photon on SPRINT rooted and with PDANET and it worked just fine creating a hotspot.

I just upgraded to a brand new Galaxy S4 (which came with the os 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) rooted it, installed the PDANET and now only the USB tethering will work. When I click on activate wifi hotspot it activates but in a couple of seconds it errors out with the following: "Hotspot Error - Unable to connect to data network, turning off Hotspot. Your plan may not have the Hotspot service, please contact your phone company."

I uninstalled the older PDANET on the S4 and reinstalled the latest PDANET plus (which includes FoxFi) and still the same error happens. :(

I see on PDANET help that is says not to update to Jelly bean and only 4.0 is supported and not 4.1 or 4.2 link http://pdanet.co/help/devices.php

So, has anyone been able to get the Galaxy S4 on Sprint running PDANET and has gotten the wifi hotspot to work? If so what version OS are you running?
