Will RCS be rolled out globally to Samsung's stock app?

My wife has RCS on her Verizon S9+ in Samsung messages, but my Note 10+ doesn't.
Mood messenger also has chat features, and like it over Samsung and Google.

RCS for the stock apps will be entirely carrier dependent. The app/phone supports it IF the carrier does. That's where Google's Messages app came in and said 'eff it, we're taking over'. HOWEVER, note that the stock messaging app SHOULD NOT BE DELETED. It contains critical elements necessary for overall messaging and those are also used by 3rd party messaging apps (Verizon's a bit different, but that's another story). So if you don't like it, just hide it, but DON'T DELETE IT.

I thought that was decoupled a few Android versions ago.

I know on the US version Samsung carriers have RCS on the stock message app , unlocked in the US don't . I'm not sure If it's the same outside the US .

AT&T , TMOBILE not sure of the other carriers, also RCS only works with there own carriers, so it's not universal on the Samsung Message.

True ..I believe Sprint and Verizon also but it really weird it won't on the unlocked version with stock Samsung message app.

Yeah, what i am thinking Samsung is gonna rebuild the Samsung Message in the future to work universal, of course they have to do some type of agreement for all carriers to go universal on RCS , but who knows when this will happen.

Sprint uses the universal profile, so stock app should be fully compliant with RCS. Sprint has used the universal profile for a long time now. Not sure how long though.

Cool didn't know for Sprint.

It really doesn't make much sense for carriers not to support the universal profile. It's open source so it'd be cheaper just to support it than to build their own version.

But what control would they be giving up...?

I think it's more of a security issue. There are several documented security holes in the RCS universal profile; more specifically, the lack of security any standards. Because security was not part of the universal profile, carriers have to figure it out on their own.

Furthermore, RCS reopens security holes that were previously plugged in MMS.

Everyone wants to do their own thing , I'm glad Google went solo , no waiting around .

"The researchers did not identify any problems with the standard itself; it’s the way carriers are rolling it out that’s the problem."

The RCS Universal Profile standard isn't the problem. The carriers are just not as security minded as they should be when they're deploying it.

That's how I read it as well.

"Full details will be revealed at the Black Hat Europe conference later this week, but the short version is that, while nothing is wrong with the base RCS standard, it is partly undefined, leaving certain details up to the carriers. It's those parts that are prone to security issues."

RCS isn't a fully defined standard; it lacks built-in security. THAT is the problem with it. Because of the lack of built-in security, implementation has been hodgepodge. That is why the US carriers formed a working group to implement it.

In Canada they do. Messages must be set to chat instead of sms/mms.
Which RCS?

Doesn't Samsung use their own version/profile of RCS for Samsung to Samsung messaging in the Samsung messages app?

Haha! Got news for you... The carriers formed CCMI so they could all be on the same page to monetize RCS. Businesses will be more likely to buy into it if it's universally deployed, so they can reach a wider audience. The carriers don't care about security. If they did, their individual implementations wouldn't be so crappy from a security standpoint.

You're correct that RCS leaves too much to the discretion of the carriers when it comes to security, but that's how the carriers like it. If it's too locked down, they can't mine it for data profiling to sell to advertisers.
