will S8 get Android P eventually?

Theoretically it could, Google hasn't ruled out P for devices without Treble yet, but that will be the determining factor.

Since Oreo is developed under Treble, and the S8 runs Oreo, I'd think it would be in line for P, but that would be up to Samsung. (So far, they've gone 2 updates on the S line.)

I think its getting P, I would even bet it getting Q as well (S6 is getting oreo so anything is possible)

Treble is a file organisation if I understand it correctly? By installing oreo the s8 gains treble surely? I'm struggling to see how that could be an obstacle to p or q.

Ach, this could be a problem. This is my first Samsung, if it doesn't go two versions I'll try a Nokia next time (or pixel). Plan to keep this for roughly three years and expect it to have latest version of android (eventually).

Hopefully the lack of treble won't be a massive issue through I would expect Google to be stricter about adopting it for p. Down to Samsung to make this work and provide a good experience for its customers, or lose us.

I thinkTreble only gives the OEM access to quicker updates. I'm not sure Samsung phones will benefit from this. It's still up to the OEM to update in a timely manner. I'm a Samsung user, even when I used Windows Phone. I purchase these phones knowing Samsung will lag with updates. I like the phones. Simple as that. If you want updates as soon as possible, get a Pixel or Android One phone. I'm getting one or the other for a back up phone.

XDA (and Google) are only testing how that works. So premature for now or that we'd know.
