Will SetCPU work on a rooted LG Thrive?

The title contains my question. I've seen that overclocking works on a custom rom/kernel, but I'm not to that point yet.

I have my LG Thrive rooted and was wondering if I purchased SetCPU, would it allow me to overclock using the stock rom. I saw one report that SetCPU had 600 MHz as the top speed, but that message was from a few months back.

So, if I purchase SetCPU, would I be able to overclock to say... 800 MHz?

No. You can not overclock on the stock kernel. You need to find a kernel that supports overclocking. Though you will be able to underclock your phone and save some important battery when u need it with setcpu for now.

Bummer...that's what I was afraid of. Not sure I'm ready to dive into getting different ROMs, etc. I've looked through some of the thread pages on here and haven't even made it half way through them. I'll just have to be happy with the improvements made via rooting the device. Thanks for the response!

Thanks Joban...yea...I've been following (some of) the discussion on the thread about your kernel. I use to work with kernel stuff when Linux was at the 0.99 kernel (back in the mid 90s or so). I haven't dealt with kernel stuff in a decade. I'm not that familiar with the phone side of things.

I keep getting closer to putting a different ROM on and then your kernel, but I really don't want to hose up my phone either...It took me since April to root the thing (glad I did though).

For what its worth, I flashed the Jobans kernal over the stock rom. It allows overclocking with SetCPU, the only glitch is that accelerometer doesnt work. I can overclock to 728 with it being stable. Everything else is fine (so far)

which build are u using? 2.08? well the gyro wasnt working on CM7 2.3.5+ so I added my own code to make it work just for that, so maybe it work it on stock rom, not soo sure?

Yes. 2.08 kernal. I flashed it over stock 2.2.2. I didnt want to give up stability until a stable 2.3 rom came out.

So is the accelerator is working in 2.08?

The thread for the kernel is so long that I lost track of what was working and what wasn't. Not sure I will do any type of flashing though...I can't afford to mess up my phone. I do like keeping track of the development though.

Well it works on CM7 which it was specially made for, and i havent tried it on stock myself to see.
