Well, according to that article, Google is one of the groups pushing the movement to a web-based environment. So I wouldn't worry about getting left behind if that's the future. We've picked the right platform.

However, I think that there will always be a niche for specialized applications, since they can be optimized for the quirks and intricacies of the device. It's like flash on Apple. Macs have some difficulty running flash, so applications running in flash will inherently run less efficiently than ones running natively.
There are trade-offs either way.

I just don't see this happening

Sure there are apps such as games, mobile banking, etc etc etc that could be run on a web app.....but what about apps that modify the functionality of the phone itself (such as stuff like themes, ringtones, browsers, file managers, and on and on and on

There will always be a need for native architecture apps

Yeah - I thought so too, but I wondered what you all thought.

I know that I have a lot of fun surfing the App Store for stuff to load onto my phone. I don't have that same experience on my desktop computer!
