Will the Moto X Play work in the US?

If I already have a Verizon nano sim, can I simply plug it into a Moto X Play and use it on the Verizon network? I know that Verizon sells the Maxx 2, but it seems easier to buy a Moto X Play online than a Maxx 2. Not many retailers will sell the Maxx 2 without a Verizon contract of some sort.
