will the Note 5 battery outlast the iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 6S Plus battery?

Battery life is very important nowadays. That said, to me the only thing I need to know is : Can my phone get me though a whole day - morning to "night" if needed - for what is MY normal usage?

For me this is rarely an issue, as I have access to chargers at home, at work, in my car, etc. So I almost never need my phone to go 20 straight hours, and therefor battery longevity is not as much of a concern for me as others.

Other people do not have that constant access to chargers and do need the phone to last very long - folks working outside without access to chargers, constantly in a weak signal area, etc. So it varies from person to person for sure. All that should matter IMO for a potential buyer is: will it last through that day for THAT OWNER, under THAT OWNER'S circumstances.

I mean, when I plug it in at night, I don't care if it says 61% or it says 18%, as long as it lasts as long as I need it up to the point that I charge it again. Beyond that, this all seems like an academic exercise. This and 1000 threads like it for every phone. If it gets me through a whole day, then it is good for me.

As some of the above posters correctly pointed out, we won't know battery life for a few weeks at the earliest, and at that time we'll see if it will last long enough (for each us us individually under our own conditions and circumstances) to work for us.

And as much as I love Android, I would not bet that it will have the battery life of a iphone 6 Plus or 6S Plus in a few weeks. But again, for me, it doesn't matter as long as the Note 5 battery lasts long enough for me..

We won't know the answer to OP's question for probably about another month or more.

What I can say now is that my 6 Plus battery life is absolutely ridiculous and kills any Android handset I've ever owned. Standby is awesome. I can leave at 6AM with a 100% charge. If I don't touch my phone, even with so-so signal and no wi-fi, I'll still have 100% by noon, and sometimes later. Often that's with quick glances at texts, and checking email here and there. Not uncommon for me to get home with 95% in the evening after a pretty good amount of "light" usage.

What's better is that this has remained practically unscathed from updates since getting the phone last year. It's even faster than it was at launch too.

I guess that pretty much answered my question. Base my past and current experience with Note 2/3/4 and S4/S5/S6, they all drain batteries like a cheap hooker downing pink champagne. Not sure if Google/Android is to blame or Samsung. (probably Android?)

My co-worker's iPhone 6 Plus has ridiculously long battery life, which shames my Note 4 and S6. At least my Note 4 can just swap out a 100% fresh battery. Can't be done with the new Note 5. Too bad. Well, not really, probably time for me to give iPhone another look? :) (when is the iPhone 6S Plus supposed to be out anyway?)

I'm not sure what the issue is, but my Note 4 gets good battery life. The hyperbole in these posts ...

I'm actually hoping apple knocks it out of the park with 2 day battery for the 6s, just to get the Android OEMs to pick up their game.

Yup. Competition is good for everyone. Battery life is the one hardware area not improving enough compared to all the other H/W improvements.

As long as we're dreaming, I sure hope the new iPhone 6S or 7 has a battery that will last an entire work week, which is 4 days. (or 5 days for those in the U.S.)

Most likely yes
The Galaxy S6 battery has been tested to last longer than the iPhone 6, so it would make sense that that Note 5 to last longer than the iPhone 6

Own both. Haven't found this to be true at all. The S6 has died well before the iPhone using the same apps under the same use.

This thread is a moot point due to the Fast Charging. My Note 4 pretty much charges to full when I plug it in my car going from A to B or I'm at my desk for a few min. This is why I am glad it doesn't have USB-C

Do you need a special car charger for fast charging?

The price of a 2K screen and open OS is poorer battery life. It's silly to compare to an iPhone 6 plus which 'only' has a 1080p screen. It's also an oversized phone with fat bezels - the footprint is a joke but that's the compromise. The regular iPhone only has a 720p screen - that looks visibly outdated to me.

The S6 battery life isn't good. It's hilarious that people still defend it. I have the Edge and it just about lasts the day on moderate usage.

I have both and my impression of the s6 (edge in my case) is that once you get your phone setup as you like you need to go into battery usage and keep an eye on who is using the battery. For example I was using Fenix which is a nice twitter client but unlike the standard twitter client it showed up on the list of battery users (even though I was not using it actively). Not heavy but it made it onto that list. I also disabled gps which is really not needed unless i am using something like maps (ios does this automatically and more aggressively). This kind of monitoring is not necessary on the iphone because iOS does it for you in a much more agressive manner. You pay a price for that agrestvity with apps never running such as photo up loaders unless you run them manually. I'm thinking of amazon photo uploader but there are many others. If this level of tweaking is not what somebody wants to do, my opinion is that they are better off with an iphone. I don't mind and find it interesting but if you want something that generally just works your better off with an iphone. There is nothing about the s6 hardware that hurts battery life. It just comes down to the flexibility android gives you at the expense of battery life.

Anyone notice that a battery charged "100%" through fast charging seems to last only 50% as long?... That being said; IPhone has a smaller battery. Im not buying that its going to last longer. It simply cant.

Nope I got nothing like that. I get 20 plus hours on battery.

You are comparing apples and oranges. Most likely no. The note does so much more than iPhone. However you can step your note down to do a Fair comparison and probably even them out.

I have heard from so many people that the iphone lasts longer than the Note 5. This is due to more efficiency supposedly. I guess it is the Apple advantage related to a cleaner system only possible with proprietary control not avail on androids.

I owned the Plus as recent as a few weeks ago. If I were to estimate I'd say it's life exceeds that of the Note 5 by about 20 pct.

I have both a Note 5 and the IPhone 6s plus. To me the iPhone has a much better battery life. I love the Note, and the stylus, but if I am going to be out all day and not around a chrger, I'll take the 6sp.
