Will the Pixel's active display (?) ever be what Motorola's was?

I had every generation of Moto X and absolutely loved the active display and active notifications.

Do you think the Pixel's "active display" or whatever it may be called will evolve to the caliber of Motorola's?

Some features I liked about Moto's:

- Moto's "breathed" instead of staying on all the time (not sure if this better or worse, but if anything it saved it saved a tiny tiny bit of battery?)
- Moto's let you scroll through the notifications while still on the black screen to see previews and also let you swipe up on a notification to open the app it is associated with. It was genius.

I found myself having much less screen-on time overall which had obvious benefits.

What do you guys see in the future for Google's active/ambient display? Do you guys feel the same way, that it needs to evolve a bit, or differently?

I still don't trust Ambient Display (even though I use it on the nightstand) - it doesn't move the display enough for my satisfaction. I'm worried about long-term burn in.
And Google needs to do something about the Now Playing display - I need a tunneling electron microscope to see the damn miniscule text. It's not like they're running out of space on the screen to display it; how about an option to make just that part of the display bigger?

I don't think the burn-in is an issue for lighter colored pixels, but I could be wrong. My Moto x devices never had burn-in, but they pulsed every few seconds. I wish the Pixel did this and/or only showing ambient display when it senses a hand over the phone or when the phone goes from covered to uncovered (taking out of pocket).

In with ya on the Now Playing text.

The lighter the color, the better the chance of burn in, white being the worst. I had the first few gens of Moto phones (Droid Maxx, Turbo 1 & 2), and they were more consistent and had actionable icons on the lockscreen (except that half the time I couldn't tell what the icons were). But I recall them being a bit hit and miss on the actionable part, like trying to open them from the lockscreen always took a few tries to get them to open. Myself I've adjusted and Google's works for my needs.

my p2xl's ambient display does seem to go off when covered as I definitely notice it coming on when taking it out of my pocket..and it brightens and dims depending on the light in the room as well, so that's a plus.. I think it's working very well, but ya, it could use some more customization features in the future

Oh I didn't know that about white being worse...darn. Well I recently took ambient display off. And that leads me to another question...

When I first turned it off, it seemed like it would pop on when I picked up the phone. I really liked that. Now I'm only does it every now and then...so my question is that triggers the ambient display when it's switched off from always on? Is it motion sensors for being picked up, or proximity sensors? Don't think it's proximity because it doesn't pop up when I wanted my hand over it...
