Will TMO unlock my phone?

I recently upgraded from the S6edge to the S7edge. A fried wants to buy my old phone instead of me sending it back as part of my jump upgrade.

He's buying it for the $350 I still owe on it. If I pay it off in full, will T-Mobile give me an unlock code for it, or am I better off paying for an unlock code through a website that provides them?

I'd definitely ask T-Mobile first; if only because they'll do it for free.

You need to have had the phone active for at least 40 days on the network for them to give you the code. Yes, this includes phones paid off in full. You can read their stupid, anti-customer friendly unlocking policies here: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588#subhead2

If you pay it off in full they will unlock it. I bought an S6 and paid it off in the first week.. They unlocked it with no issue.

This. I've always paid for my phones outright and T-Mobile has always unlocked them during the first week.

T-Mobile is using a Samsung app for unlocking the phones. I've unlocked two Samsung phones using a manager at T-Mobile customer support each time.

I used the "Device Unlock" app installed by T-Mobile on my S7 Edge. I have it paid off so it let me permanently unlock it.
