will we even get a high spec droid with a 4" screen ?

Don't get me wrong, big screens are great for a few things but not everyday practical use. I mean its hard to use, its uncomfortable to hold in the hand (you cant grip it nicely). You also have to change the position of your hand as you use it (reaching into that far top left corner)

I personally would like to see a 3.8"-4" droid with a 2500 mAh battery, LTE, 2 gigs of RAM, 13 MP camera, snap dragon 800 with its its processors clocked at 2 GHz.

How about you ?

Sony's miniature version of the Z1 is rumored to be coming to the US. It is 4.3", but it is spec for spec nearly identical to the z1. 20 MP camera, same processor, goes to a 720p screen instead of 1080 (at 4.3" who cares though), and offers the same great build quality.

I'd still prefer a smaller screen, no bigger than 4". Just like the galaxy s3 mini.

The only reason the bigger phones get the bigger batteries is because they have room for them. You might be able to fit the rest of what you want in a smaller phone, assuming there's enough demand for it, but you just can't get as much battery capacity in a smaller space. You may have to wait for a little while to be able to fit that much RAM in a smaller phone as well. If RAM is the bottleneck then it won't make a lot of sense to have a more powerful/expensive processor.

FWIW, I don't think there will be demand for the phone you're describing. If you have a small screen then you probably aren't doing the types of things that require a lot of computing power. Most who want a lot of computing power won't be willing to spend nearly as much on a phone that's significantly smaller, either.

I'm of the opinion that a phone should either be gigantic (over 5") or small (around 4"). I want high end specs either way. I either want a phone that is very easy to use one handed and supremely pocketable or something that gives me a huge amount of screen real estate.

I'm sure we will...in due time. I like my S4, especially when taking photos, but a version with a smaller screen would be for 'piratical.' It would also allow to Android to infiltrate other markets currently out of reach.

Then why does the Samsung galaxy S3 (4.8" ) have a smaller battery than an LG optimus L7 (4.3" ) ?

Samsung galaxy s3 has a
Li-Ion 2100 mAh

LG L7 has a Li-Ion 2460 mAh battery.

The L7 also has a MUCH bigger battery then many 4.5" devices such as the galaxy s2 (1600mAh), HTC EVO 3D (1750mAh), HTC sensation (1520mAh) Nokia 920 (2000mAh)...the list goes on and on...

It depends more on what the manufacturer choses to do than the screen size.

The L7 is also larger than you say you want. It's thicker than the S3 as well. It also has less than a GB of RAM, no LTE, only 4GB of internal storage and doesn't claim to support more than a 32GB uSD card. So it has nothing you want in it except for the battery. I'm not sure it's a very good candidate to make your case. It was designed to have lower specs and a better battery. They had to make some pretty significant trade offs to get that big battery in there.

I'm not saying it's an absolute linear relationship between screen size and battery capacity, but a battery with a larger capacity will require more physical space. Many of the other features you want require physical space as well. A phone with 2GB of RAM probably has multiple RAM chips. Those take space as well and require pretty specific placement and routing.

I know...come to think of it, I'd take that device if you give it a 4" screen and LTE, have no idea why I wanted high specs if all I do is make phone calls, send messages and browse the net...just not practical to have high spec for my needs.

Moto x. Barely bigger than iPhone 5. Barely. Hold the two face to face and see. Moto x is awesome.

It's 4.7" but the screen goes right to the edge of the body so screen is basically 95% of the phone yet it's smaller than most others that are 4.5-4.8", it fits far better in my pocket than the HTC One X does.

iPhone 5S: 4" display, measurements: 4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 inches (123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm)
Moto X: 4.7" display, measurements: 5.09 x 2.57 x 0.41 inches (129.3 x 65.3 x 10.4 mm)
HTC One Mini: 4.3" display, measurements: 5.20 x 2.49 x 0.36 inches (132 x 63.2 x 9.25 mm)
Sony Xperia Z1S: 4.3" display, no measurements information yet

Moto X is still smaller than the One Mini... lol

Is it just me or do iPhones have HUGE bezels. ?

Come to think of it I'd really like to see the moto G that is coming...does anyone know anything about it, specs, os version, screen size, battery...etc ?
