Will you be preordering the atrix?

Exciting!! Oh, and I did get the confirmation text back from AT&T...but it took about 30 mins.

I guess I'll try and stay up to pre-order, but I wonder if it'll be midnight EST or PST?

So, I've already signed up for my MotoBlur account and I'm on the mailing list to be notified when the OtterBox Commute case is released for this phone. I'm contemplating the Invisishield (which they don't even show as coming soon).

Does anyone know for certain if the Atrix will have gorilla glass? Even with GG do y'all still use a screen protector? My N1 stays in my pocket all the time but separate from my keys/change/tiny woodland creatures and I still have the Invisishield on it. I just don't like the little bit of glare (or whatever you want to call it) that these things add to the phone.

And I know this has been discussed 6 million times...but what does it hurt to discuss it 6 million and 1?

Amazon (one of their retailers) already has the OtterBox Commuter for Atrix for sale: Amazon.com: Otterbox Commuter Case for Motorola Atrix: Cell Phones & Accessories

Yes, Atrix will have gorilla glass. Yes having a screen protector would help you more.
Phones today will have glare regardless of having a screen protector or not, so unless you get the anti-glare ones (which then make looking at any pictures/videos on your phone less than desirable), just get used to it.

oh and PRE ODER AD VIDEO =

Great video....

I am at the same point as you.... I want the invisashield so i can use docks but the otter box for/protection. I really dont know what im going to do...

Motorola did their design on this phone a little different. Most phone have GG then an air gap and then the digitizer to help reduce wear and tear on the digitizer but that air gap is what causes such bad glare in sunlight. On the ATRIX they took out the air gap and say that it wont wear down the digitizer but will in turn offer a brighter screen and clarity and should look great out in the sun.

I always put screen protectors on my phones out of habit and worry, but with this phone I would say try it in the sun and if there is no glare then just use the clear one that usually comes with otterbox commuter cases. if there is glare then at&t is carrying a two pack of anti-glare anti-fingerprint screen protectors. (we already have ours in stock, weird!)

Yeah, I'm waiting to hear back from the guys at Slashgear/AndroidCommunity who are reviewing the phone. I asked them to check the docks usage with different cases....though it'll depend on how quickly they can get their hands on cases :-\

Thanked!

Interesting tid bit of info. I wonder how this will effect gorilla glass' (if it even has gg) ability to protect the phone.

Bob, please let us know what you hear. I am a big fan of the otter box, especially since I probably wont learn how to replace the atrix glass like I did on the iPhones. The docks are going to loose a bunch of appeal if they arn't otter box friendly...

I see you can pre-order the Otterbox defender through Amazon and it is $.01 shy of being free shipping (i.e. $24.99). Now I just need to buy something for under $5 that is eligible for their super saver shipping and I'm all set.

Otterboxes don't do much to protect gorilla glass. My Nexus One was in an Otterbox when it fell off a table and broke not only the glass, but the AMOLED screen underneath. It didn't even hit the glass (as it landed on its side and onto its back) and was also using an invisibleshield screen protector.

Otterbox is good for protecting against case scratches (and that's it), but it's hardly any protection against a fall.

Which Otterbox did you have? That may make a difference. The Defender is going to give greater protection than the Impact.

It was a commuter case. I've seen the defender case, and while it might have slightly more protection, it probably wouldn't have made a difference for me.

How are you preodering yours? I just chatted with an AT&T sales rep and they don't know if you can do it on line or in the store. I signed up for the email notification when the phone is available for preorder. I prefer the on line method myself.

Otterboxes do more than just protect scratches. I've known many construction workers who use them and when they fall out of their clips, the cases may get dinged a bit but the phone is 100% operational.

The commuter cases are good cases and sure the front is not too raised up because of style but it does offer a reasonable amount of protection to the screen due to its slightly raised silicone layer. Sucks that your phone fell and hit the ground that way and maybe it was some outlier incident, but other than one guy who threw his phone across a parking lot, ive not seen otterboxes fail people who've had their phones fall down, etc...

And the defender cases do actually offer more protection than the commuter because it actually encases the whole phone and doesn't leave the screen open at all.

Sure, if you drop it from more whatever their maximum protection height is (stated on their site) then, of course it will not offer you protection because it wasn't meant to be dropped from that high.

Ok, so I just got done chatting with AT&T customer service and this is what they had to say:

Chris, my understanding is it is the whole thing up front. Debit or credit card, no billing to your account. That is what the nice lady at AT&T told me.
