Doesn't matter who makes the screens... the sensors are a separate component. Just under the screen.

It won't be under the screen for the iPhone. They are discussing removing it period. It does matter that Samsung is making the screen. The scanner is causing issues with brightness where it would be located. That's why Samsung didn't do it. We have become way too spoiled.

It doesn't matter in the slightest that Samsung is making the screen. They supply the component to Apple, and Apple does whatever they want with it. Whether that includes integrating the scanner beneath it or not, Samsung has nothing to do with it.

Also, until Apple announces something, you can believe what you read. Apple likes to spread false rumors and make last minute changes. At this point it's as likely that a scanner will be integrated as it isn't.

In fact, it will not have a fps at all. This is huge news and a real gift to Samsung. For upper level security they're going with facial recognition. Big mistake in my view. Facial recognition is an ergonomic nightmare. Who wouldn't feel like an imbecile holding their phone up to their face every time they wanted to unlock it? As much as I hate a rear mounted fps I'd take that any day over facial recognition unlocking.

Isn't that the argument some S8 owners are making why they don't care if the S8 FPS is at an awkward location and no need since they have retina scan?

The tech is different from S8's facial scan and could also include retina scan as well as scan from a flat table.

Apple is being brave Honestly not sure what will be real story... touch under screen or 3D facial recognition, the only consistent rumor is that the home button is gone and doesn't seem to be a rear button to take it's place so looks like some new tech one way or other. Kind of skeptical on both techs but it will be interesting in a few months.

I don't think there is a one coat size that fits it all.

If Apple is sure of its standing to come up with a more secure security functionality, really I would say why not?

Honestly, I have never really been swayed by the so called facial recognition in the first place.

A number of phone brands do just well with fingerprint reader. lol

Even, the latest Infinix Note technology, Infinix Note 4 seems really cool without it anyway. Lol

Embedded FPS doesn't impress me either. Just maybe the embedded FPS is proving to be a challenge. If Samsung does do it, I hope they do it on the note 8 so you guys can be the guinea pigs. I like the location and features of the FPS on the S8.

Yeah I agree. I tend to not read to much into rumors. Sure if I see something I like I am hopeful that it is true but I take all rumors with a grain of salt.

Right. And it won't affect me anyway as I don't plan of buying any of their products this year.
