Will you upgrade to a P4/XL?

The moving of the fps really bugs me more than anything. Having it on the back just makes so much sense.

I love the camera on my P2XL so much, if they made it even slightly better I'd be fine with it.

I felt the same way as you did until I got the S10+ to compare. Can't say that I miss the rear sensor. Just hope that if Google goes that route they implement it better than Samsung because it's not as forgiving for dry fingers as the rear sensors.

Eh, I'm not sure. I dislike in-display fingerprint scanners. I find this new tech to be slower and less reliable than fingerprint scanners. But who knows - maybe by fall 2019 the technology will be further improved.

But the big hole punch notch is not really my thing. The one on the S10e isn't too bad as it's smaller - but the big one that's rumoured on the 4 is a little too large for my taste.

But who knows! I read that the hole punch thing should only be taken with a grain of salt - so I dont want to make any speculations at this point.

But... I just hate to give up my Pixel 2's camera! Not sure any other phone camera can compare!

Edit: Why did I use "but" so often here?

You know something, I'd have to agree with you. As cool as aninnovative feature in Macintosh I just don't see the purpose of it. I like the rear fingerprint scanner of the pixels for imprint.

I would also prefer 3, but if we can only have one additional lens, ...

Why can we only have one additional lens when every other flagship has three? Google admitted that their P3 sales were lousy and I believe that had a lot to do with their hardware choices. They need to up their game in this area if P4 sales are going to improve. This is not a matter of coming out with something new and innovative; it's simply keeping up.

I've no idea but I guess Google doesn't feel they need it. It wouldn't stop me from getting it. We all know that Google isn't big on hardware advancements. I don't expect that to change dramatically by the Pixel 4 which is already past design stage. I may skip the Pixel 4 but not because it's lacking.....simply because what I have now with the 3XL and S10+ suits me quite well. The wide angle could tempt me to upgrade from the 3XL but I probably won't be jumping on a preorder.

Do you think the 3XL was a big enough upgrade from the 2XL? I keep trying to tell myself to wait another full year and a half for the 5 but the new phone siren song is already calling. I'm already thinking about going to a 3 or 4.

It was big enough for me to make the jump. I'm not sure I would tell you to get a 3 because we are close to the 4, although the 3 will be more reasonable in price. If you've had the 2XL since it came out it may make sense to jump to something since the battery will be about 2 years old by the time the 4 is out.

Have you put in multiple fingerprints with the same finger? I did it two or three times to make sure all angles were covered. It never fails.

I've done that numerous times. (sometimes it will work for a time or two, then quit) It started out not working from the "get go" in the Verizon store. I didn't know anything about a FPS at that time, and it was no big deal to me. Now I know that I should have insisted on a different phone right then. Anyway, the PIN has never failed, and I'm not inconvenienced (that I'm aware of, anyway!!).

Yeah ... I plan on getting the P4, even though my P2 is still working great. I've always kept my phones until they died ... but this time I want to upgrade for a newer camera, that will probably be even better this time! My battery is still working great. I won't mind a hole-punch camera as long as we can keep the front facing speakers. My fingerprint scanner has hardly ever worked, so I don't care where they put it, I get along just fine with a PIN. 10 to 1 they don't get rid of the physical buttons ... that seems kind of silly ... then again, if it WORKED, it'd be kinda cool, as I use the squeeze. I hope they have a great color this year!

Don't you have a 2 year warranty or was that just the XL?

Yeah that's a good point. All of the warranties were extended. You should check asap. If not for your own use, for resale value.

Edit-The 2s got them too. I originally bought a 2 and got the email about the extended warranty.

I had preferred care, but the extension was of the manufacturer's warranty.

Your manufacturer's warranty should still be valid til at least October if I'm not mistaken.

I don't have the 2XL anymore. The standard warranty is not transferable. Google preferred care is.

Yup, I've got the 2 year warranty ... but the rest of the phone is working fine. And, because I've had a case and screen protector since forever, it's unscratched and pristine. If I turned it in for replacement, I'd get a rebuilt that probably wouldn't be as nice as this. That would REALLY bother me. I'm probably nuts, but the lack of a FPS is no big deal. I probably won't resell the P2 ... keep it for a backup, audio player, whatever.

I don't think refurbished are beat up looking I can't guarantee that. You could ask for them to replace it until you get a good one if that was the case but I understand if that may seem like a hassle. You could also try contacting them to see if their is an authorized repair center nearby or that you can ship to that they work with to replace the sensor rather than exchange.

Thanks, Mike ... that's a good idea. I think I remember reading that Google uses UBreakIFix, and there's one about 25 miles from me. It wouldn't hurt to call and see if that's something I could do. Do you really think that the FPS is that important? I suppose it would be if I wanted to sell it.

Well if you want to sell it that definitely makes sense but even if you keep it I like an FPS so for me I would want to it fixed but that's just me.

at this point, too hard to say. my p2XL is working fine on Q beta....I can say this...I definitely won't be buying at launch. will wait for discount or BOGO promotion so I can get my wife into one too. she's tired of LG and has finally seen the light with watching me and my pixel.
