OK,

Here is a picture of my original Moto Droid which I had rooted and installed Gingerbread on. It was working great for several months but finally started to get pretty slow and I am badly needing a new phone! :'(

Enter me in the drawing!

Here are pictures of my original Droid 1 that bought on Day -1 at Wal-Mart the night before the release. I am actually still using this phone right now, but as you can see the entire screen is all cracked.

Added on to that is that the right side of the touch screen won't work so I can't get past the locked screen. This means the only thing I can do with the phone is to receive incoming calls since I installed an app to answer the phone by hitting the camera button. I can make outgoing calls only through my car, since I have bluetooth. I'm also able to receive a text message and view it thanks to handcent, but can only reply once since I still can't get back into the launcher. I've been waiting to get a new phone and I'm on the cusp of not being able to wait any longer since I can initiate any calls or text messages. It's basically a huge pager with a nicer clock.

My OG Droid still in service on it's third life

I didn't feel I could capture the wear on my droid with just one picture so I made a collage of several :) and I couldn't just say it was beat up without telling the tale of all that it has been through...

I love my droid, I got it on release day at 7am eastern time, I was outside waiting for them to open the doors.

Having had many windows mobile phones prior the smartphone was not new, but android was to me, and to most at that point.

Little did I know how much it would change my world and simplify my devices, gone are the GPS, the mp3 player, the 411 calls, the cds of stuff that doesn't fit on the mp3 player, the point and shoot camera, the guide book or map when traveling, the sub-way schedule...

Most phones only get worse as time goes on from purchase, not my droid, with release after release new features hit my device improving it all the time.

When my warranty expired I rooted the phone and moved up to Gingerbread, trying cyanogenmod and others before settling on Peter Alfonso's GPA15/16 builds.

When google music was announced I added that too (I already had the app thanks to the forums!) and now I have my huge live Phish collection in the cloud and my monthly usage has grown to 4GB.

In summary my droid has grown and gotten better and better over time, always giving me more than I expected and always trusty and happy to do my bidding.

Me on the other hand I think I just keep taking and dishing out abuse.

First I had some dings, nothing big, I don't use a case as I always use my car dock (music via bluetooth). The power button went down and never came back up to where it was at first (although it is pressable).

The first big thing to go was the battery door ... somehow one of the things the little metal tabs catch on just broke and now the door is slightly open on that corner.

Then I did something few will admit, while playing with my droid one I was doing a number two and I dropped my beloved companion in the bowl!
Quickly fished it out, removed the battery and wiped all the water I could off of it immediately.

Overnight I placed the phone in a zip lock with a handfull of rice.

The next day i put the battery back in and was suprised to have a fully functioning phone.

Seemed my droid had more lives than I expected!

So time went on (I never told anyone the toilet issue "Ew you put that next to your face!") and then one day it had a short fall of a 2-3 feet onto tile. It hit perfectly and the screen cracked :(

I lived with the crack for a week until it turned into a full blown spider shatter.

At this point most people would have just gone for the upgrade to whatever the best device was at the time (and be showing a picture of their broken phone here begging for a new droid 3 because they already spent their upgrade on something else).

But not me, I paid ~$75 to have the glass replaced, to bring my droid back to life again.

Unfortunately (I'm not going to name any names) the repair although it did return the phone to operation again was flawed.

First i noticed the top of the screen was no longer below the metal bezel.

Then i noticed dust was starting to get between the glass and the display below.

So now I have a phone that works but has many bumps and bruises as well as significant dust under the screen... and still another few months before I hit the two year mark :(

Neways some highlights of the condition

Battery door ajar and separation between the black plastic and the soft touch back at the microusb port, Camera button totally tatered, screen no longer flush, back panel around the camera is popping up, grill on the speaker is broken and dented, dust under the screen, keyboard has scrapes and is coming up in the corners, power button requires extra effort to push as it has permanently lost it's spring, wear on the back metal of the screen part from continous use, wear on the keyboard side, some bowing of the frame near the volume rocker oh and did I mention it took a bath, in a toilet?

yeah my droid has been through hell and back (and it's probably my fault).

So please send me the shiny new droid 3!

And don't worry I'm still keeping my og droid, going to use it as a windows media center remote and for internet browsing over wifi once i swap over to the droid 3, cause this og still has a few lives left :)

I had always been so careful with my Droid, not to drop it, not to scratch it, etc. But recently my Droid took a dive, literally. I had laid it out on the table on the deck. My friend decided to take a picture of someone in the pool, but my phone ended up in the pool instead. I tried to dry it out to no avail. So I had to break out my old LG, but shortly after the battery must have shorted and expanded. So now I have had to resort to using my old KRZR. I am in need of a smart phone again.

Let's face it, there are a lot of you out there with the original Motorola Droid, and it's probably starting to look a little haggard. Tell you what: We're going to give one lucky person our (mostly) brand new Motorola Droid 3. And being the benevolent bloggers that we be, let's sweeten the deal. Here's what we'll do:

  • One lucky person will will our Motorola Droid 3. (You'll be on your own for Verizon's service, though.) And we'll throw in $50 worth of accessories from the Android Central Store, too.
  • One other lucky person's gonna get a $50 store certificate, plus a free Android Central T-shirt.
  • And three more of you will win Android Central T-shirts.
What do you have to do to win? Take a picture of your old and busted phone. Doesn't have to be a Motorola Droid. Could be any smartphone. Or, hell, a feature phone. So long as it's old and busted. (But don't go dragging your RAZR through the streets, ya dig?)

The post your pic in this thread.

We'll pick the winners at 5 p.m. EST Aug. 5, and announce 'em on the blog.

It's a U.S. phone, of course, but we can ship T-shirts to a number of countries, so those of you outside the U.S. won't be left out. Now take your pics, and post 'em here! Good luck!
My friend calls my busted Droid Incredible the Spiderman edition.

my OG droid.
it is my current phone i am using. it is miserable paying for a smart phone but barely even able to read text and use the internet is almost out of the question. even when my upgrade finally does come i wouldnt be able to afford something like the droid 3.
it looks awesome!
thanks guys for this contest and good luck to everyone.

My Galaxy S was stolen from me :'(, so I had to resurrect my old busted Nokia 5070. With no data and having some keys malfunctioning I had the urge to ask my little brother to lend me his Blackberry 8120  so I could receive/answer a bunch of e-mails I was receiving due to my thesis research, I have 6 more months to finish my investigation, with no apps for BB to help me with my duties (electronics/data sheets/circuits) and a cellphone that feels more like a cage than a smartphone :(.

My poor droid that I've dropped one, screen was shattered, but I paid for the repair, now the keys on the phone are starting to peel off. I need a new phone with a new keyboard!!

not pictured: The case has been super glued on since it wasn't staying

Back Battery Cover is missing from last drop and shatter.

This is my busted Droid 2. :( It was doing FINE until one day I went out to lunch with my Japanese sensei's and it dropped as I got in their car. -sniff- It's never been the same. Now, not only is it now slower (to go along with the busted screen), but EVERY time I plug it in to charge, it restarts. Oh, and the keyboard is starting to come off. And I think I might have to sit with this until I can upgrade next summer! =/ I could really use the new phone.
