Wireless charging?

OMG! Too many games Google.

I'm OK with it... My Tylt stand wasn't rapid to begin with but it was faster than most standard ones. Honestly, slow charging is still the best. If I'm in a hurry I have faster methods. The Pixel stand does more than just charge and I don't mind the 80 bucks. I spent over a thousand for my phone so I'm not going to quibble over a little extra money.

It used to be that chargers were "generic". NOw whether wired or wireless, one needs to be careful which charger they use with a phone.

Actually they started out less generic. They had different capabilities and connectors and some chargers were docking stations. Unfortunately there's no industry standard and sometimes someone comes out with a better idea or decides to make theirs proprietary. Sometimes it's safer to stick with the OEM product.

Does anyone know if there is a site or forum where we can write in to ask Google for a fix (if possible). reading that Android police article it looks like the charging rate is software driven. If that's true then it should be easier to correct. One reason I love these products is that I have the freedom to choose the accessories I want. Being limited for the sake of it or for sales is not a good reason.

I plug my phone into my car for Android Auto using the usb-a to usb-c cable provided by Google with the first Pixel I think it was. Been using it that way with the Pixel and Pixel 2 with no problems. I noticed it seemed the Pixel 3 was gaining very little if any charge after my 30 minute commute just listening to podcasts. Downloaded the Ampere app to check it this morning. According to the app it is only charging at around 150mA. That isn't going to keep up when I have to use Maps for something. I really hope this gets modified by a future update.

I tested my car charger and it was running around 1200mA. I forget what percent charge I was at when I tested. So Google isn't nerfing all car chargers. I was A to C as well.

Some vehicles seem slower than others if you use there built in, at least that has been my experience.

My neighbor has a new car, same make as mine. He stated that the charge rate from the USB port in the center console was slow. Explained to him that even though he could get juice from that, it is for data /USB stick, and to charge he needs to use a power source, cigarette lighter, with a good output USB adapter for it. Point is, make sure that you use a power point, not the USB input. I've seen this too many times.

Everyone should be aware that for wired charging Google uses the Power Delivery standard for rapid charging not QC 3.0. in that case using the wrong method will still charge at a slower rate, however it will not indicate rapid charging on the device.

This is the same input that is meant to connect the phone to Android Auto in my car. I was just pointing out the drastic difference in results with the Pixel 3 from what I was getting with the same setup using both a Pixel and Pixel 2. I haven't tried switching cables or inputs yet as it hasn't been a huge issue, just an observation.

The USB ports in my truck charged my P2 / my iPhone without issue. Not slow at all TBH.

I think the Pixels are very sensitive to USB ports. I've had issues with P1 and P2 when it came to sideloading, and data transferring from phone to computer. I've used USB 2 and USB 3 ports on my 3 computers with varying results at various times. Pretty sure the Pixel/USB situation has been mentioned before.

Not sure if/how this relates, other than the USB/Pixel connection.

My P3 will be here later today and I'm going to see how it charges on The Stand. The 3XL I had for a few days seemed to charge very rapidly on The Stand.

As with most things in life - YMMV

There's a very real chance that it was made with charging in mind. A normal data USB2 port will only put out 500mA. However, many computers, cars, and other devices have ports that have been set up to detect if the connected device is trying to draw more than that, and will output more amperage (the amount varies by device). Some charging standards like QuickCharge will also vary the voltage in order to supply higher charging rates at supported amperage.

Yeah I am sure it was built with charging in mind since my truck supports Android Auto / Car Play.
