Wireless Tether errors

I've used the same .apk on my last 3 phones with no problems. Now on my GN I get:

Wireless Tether started with errors. See log.

Setting ad-hoc mode....
Setting essid...
Setting channel...

Any ideas?

Just FYI,

I am pretty tight with my Verizon salesman and he also customizes his Android. He made it a point to caution me about hacking for free wireless tether recently. He said word came through channels to him that it was going to be randomly policed in the near future. What that meant, I don't know.

It may be total scuttlebutt but I am just putting it out here for your consideration.
