I have a Samsung Galaxy s8+ unlocked from Verizon SM-G955U. I need Android 10 or newer (android 11) in order to utilize ASHA (Audio Streaming for Hearing Aid) for compatibility with my new Oticon More Hearing Aids. Sam won't give us 10 or newer.

I wish to root this phone so I can utilize ASHA and other advantages. (and just have fun if I don't wind up tearing my hair out. :-) )

I have read that VERIZON S8+ cannot be rooted. I have also read that it can.

I have no knowledge of rooting and wish to get the right information on all this, so would appreciate being led in the right direction - websites etc. Last thing I want to do is brick the thing.

Hope someone out there has had experience with Verizon Galaxies.

Hi, welcome to AC!
Best place for that source is xda forums, US version are harder to root because they don't have a unlocked bootloader. Have you checked accessibility for your hearing aids?

Now that I look the Oticon data over I realize that the ASHA tech isnt in the PHONE So I am probably wasting my time.

But I will look into rooting anyway I may have some fun

Thanks for making me look at this stuff

They are compatible with Galaxy S9 up
I may not understand your question
What don't you understand?

Root your device you have to check out XDA forums. The United States version are not easy to root because the bootloader is locked .

In settings under Accessibility there should be option for hearing aids, have you checked there?

all that's there is hearing aid support " adjust the sound quality to work better with hearing aids."

I'll go to XDA and bone up on rooting and give it a shot and see what gives. ASHA is a bluetooth thing so I may have a chance. Later bluetooth has this android capability. Iphones from I think 6 up always had hearing aid compatibilty, you hear the call through your hearing aids. I read that patents expired that apple had so Android went to town with it. Android 10 up But only certain phones are compatible with Oticon. Oti lists the phones they have tested. So I dont know if it can work but willing to go through the learning process with rooting.

I want a newer phone anyway so if I brick this one I just get a new phone But I want to wait until the new Galaxy is out in Feb. Really dont want to go Pixel with all the various problems reported. If I get a new phone I want the best camera out there.

anyway off to XDA Thanks

Ok , your welcome!

my phone doesnt have "bluetooth hearing aids" the thing that makes this work with android is bluetooth LE - low energy. So theoretically I could add it to my phone after rooting.

I probably will chill even though I read up on this stuff. I really do want that nice shiny new S22 Ultra out in Feb with a real slick camera. But I am still game for rooting
