Wishing for Major Xoom Update at Google I/O

A lot of us Xoom owners have since launch day been defending our Xooms with features promised. Months pass by and (without root) still no 4G, SD, USB Host, or even default "desktop" web browsing. My patience is running thin and I can't help but feel my iPad friends grinning and thinking "I told you so".

With the upcoming Google I/O conference happening on May 10-11. I'm wishing for a major Xoom update that would fix ALL these missing features. I know it's wishful thinking but it would be great to finally put to rest all these online reviews saying the Xoom is half baked, Honeycomb OS shipped premature, etc.

Does anybody feel the same? As great as the Xoom is, it pains to know that it can be even better once these issues are addressed by Motorola/Google/Verizon.

I don't think IO will come without news, being as Honeycomb is the latest and greatest and there have been a bunch of tablet manus gearing up for summer sales I do expect some nice android-tablet plans to be revealed at IO. I'm thinking they will go beyond bug fixes and in to even more Google developed apps and features.

Just one thing, the 4G upgrade is really a VZW/Moto hardware thing. I believe they said 90 days from 2/24 so I'm still OK with this.

Thanks, I missed that detail of a 90 day estimate after launch. So it looks like the 4G update should happen within the next month. The recent new 4G LTE locations are also a good sign.

Who handles the updates? Moto or google? If they do have an update planned, here's hoping my wifi version gets it quick without carrier road blocks.

months pass by? its been just over 2 months

I want an update too, but lets not exaggerate

I'm A-OK with where we're at (or not at) with the updates for 4G and the microSD. I only use my Xoom on wifi and I have plenty of space on my Xoom for storage. I wanted the 3G/4G capability really only to not box myself out in the future.

I find there's more to do and keep me busy with my Xoom as it is already. :)

Xoom is a google experience device and Verizon should never change anything on updates. As for the updates coming I could care less what friends say. They just want to think they have the best. I got root, sd, usb, a full desktop browser, clockwork, nice kernel and roms on the way. Im good right now :)

I have SD card support via custom Kernel, I still could care less about SD card support or 4g( mainly cause I own a wifi only Xoom xD) I really want the browser to be much more stable, and the device to be stable overall, I have 3 random reboot every day. 1 of them is always scary ones ( watching a video on YouTube, whether it be on the site or app, and it just makes an annoying noise while it's frozen).

I'm just hoping for some updates that will make this device stable, you know? The browser crashes a lot and I have to restart the device once a day because of overall slowness/lock ups. Here's hoping Google I/O brings goodies.

Yep main thing first would be making the thing overall stable. We should make LTE and SD card support a last thought. I would love my Xoom to view these pictures of my trip to Hawaii on my SD card that I downloaded with 4g, but my Xoom keeps crashing :(

Lol.

4G will be nice. My Xoom has been running pretty good now. They are slowly updating the things I wanted, like the Kindle reader; which works much better now.

COME ON!
Your Apple fanboys have no SD and no 4G and they will never get it with the iPad and iPad 2.
At the moment their are barely any carriers that have 4G and let me tell you 4G sucks the living hell out of your battery. The day you will get your 4G LTE you will be looking for an app to revert back to 3G. Then your Apple fanboys will really laugh at you.
As for the SD, well if your 32G is already full then maybe another 32G won't do you much good as you will probably fill it up.
I purchased the XOOM as a desktop replacement and in my 4 days of use i am really impressed. Hell, i just downloaded a DIVX/AVI movie from a torrent and played it on the XOOM.
You are the one that should be laughing at your Apple buddies as they can't even come close to doing this with their iPad. For the moment Honeycomb as unfinished as it is it is REALLY solid. Imagine the next updates.

Maybe the iOS 5 will improve the functionality but for the moment iOS 4.x is reserved for the computer illiterate (kids, wife and old people). If you are a proclaimed "superuser" i really don't understand what is to like about the iOS4.x.
As Arnold once said "iOS is for babies..."

Cheers

I share your sentiments and feel the same way. After all I purchased the Xoom and am loving it. As for 4G, I'm sure it does take up more battery but I will still benefit from it. I watch a lot of Youtube and my 3G speeds can barely keep up with videos. Often times I have to hit pause and wait for it to download before finishing. The SD card is not so much to handle overflow but I would rather dedicate it for music storage and use Doubletwist to sync playlists.

Not to be mean, but this is just a completely stupid argument. If his 32G is already full, then another 32G would definitely do him a lot of good - he would have double the space. And if he fills that one up, he can go out and get another 32G card, and so on and so forth. Isn't that one of the main reasons why a device would have an SD card slot in the first place?

Your argument basically boils down to "if you need the SD card, then the SD card won't do you any good." Or, in other words, nobody should need the SD card.

I don't mean to single you out, because I have read this argument countless times on this forum. But honestly, I am tired of reading all these inane justifications for why it doesn't matter that the Xoom is not yet fully functional. Every single owner of the Xoom has a right to be annoyed that it is not fully yet fully functional. That doesn't mean the Xoom is not a good product, or worse than the iPad.

All XOOM owners bought the XOOM knowing what worked and what didn't at the time. I say if the sd card and 4g were important ti someone they should have not bought the device as it is now. If you want to be the first with something like myself this is just how it is. Updates will or might not come who knows but we bought the device knowing 100% these things were not working yet and we all know we can't 100% trust a manufacturer or carrier when something will be done.
