With a Heavy Heart I Have to Stop Using My S10+ as My Daily Driver

I had the same issue when I left Apple 6+ years ago, it was huge pain to get it all sorted with making sure I logged out of iTunes, Apple apps and other stuff I can't remember. I phoned in to Apple have my phone number removed from their system (the de register site didn't exist back then), the rep told me if that didn't solve the issue then I should just change my phone number (that comment didn't go over well). About a week after that the issue was finally resolved; my parents and sister and some friends went through the same thing when they switched to Android.

Well it technically isn't screwing up the texts as that is controlled by the carrier. iMessage registers your phone number to Apple servers. If you leave without toggling that off you are still registered so when iPhones go to text -- they lookup and use iMessage if it receives a "Yes" to your number being in the database.

Turning it off before leaving is the best way to get out of that database. If not then doing the simple 1 text de-registration method I linked in the 2nd post will do the trick. That will then remove the number from the database so iPhones will get a "No" back and default to regular carrier SMS texting.
I think the issue with imessages is everything else that is associated with that number. I turned it off on my iPhone before switching to bthe S10+, but I still have my apple watch, MacBook and iPads on imessages. So the breakup isn't as simple as turning imessages off on the iPhone. I probably need to turn off imessages on every apple device to break free.

In theory it should turn off across all when you de-register from the phone. Nonetheless I would try the site and it should deregister pretty much instantly.

That is correct Unless you have no lock screen security.
So if you want the alarms to still work after a restart then you have to disable any kind of lock screen you have so that the phone can log you in automatically after the restart, open the clock app and play the alarm tone.
Think of this as logging into your pc. You can't open any apps to play a song unless you log in. Same thing happens on your phone. If you have a lock screen set to pin, password, fingerprint etc. then your phone cannot log you in automatically after a restart and it cannot open the clock app to play the alarm tone.

It is a pain to leave imessage. I have to tell my iPhone using friends and family to make sure they send me messages as texts. It only has to be done once for each person but many don't realize the message didn't go through.

It's sporadic. But so far I have 4 job related texts that I haven't received that I know of
I switch constantly between android and iOS, best bet is to deregister from the link above and then delete any saved conversations on the s10, if you transferred over any conversations from your iPhone or had saved conversations from a backup. This will stop any failed messages when you switch to android.

Ahh, ok. That explains why I am having trouble deregistering. Those conversations are sitting on other devices. I will delete all conversations on all devices and see if that solves the issue. Thanks.

For whatever reason my S10+ isn’t receiving all texts sent to me. This happened with my Note 9 as well. I suspect it has something to do with me leaving iMessages. I made sure I turned off iMessages before going to the S10+.

The last straw was my alarm didn’t go off as scheduled after a scheduled device restart this morning.

I absolutely love the S10+ and it’s the best device currently on the market. But I rely on it to perform the basics text and alarms. It failed me too many times...

Sounds like Apple is the problem to me. There way of locking folks in. 🙄

I get messages from all my friends and family with no issue that use iMessage. They do nothing special.

Regular text wise yeah nothing really special. It is only when it comes to sending media (mainly video) is where the difference comes in. RCS will eventually fix that if the carriers ever stop dragging so hard on it.
