This is a more of a curious, wondering question for all of you. I just rooted my gs3 and am currently debating on if i should load a custom rom or just go threw and clean out alot of the crap apps that i don't need.

This being said i would like to ask you (those that read this) Which rom would you recommend that i try or run? Only rom that i have somewhat played with is MIUI but am open to any and all options you can give me.

Would like Customization, performance and decent battery life

Thanks
Robert

Probably one of the most popular ROMs is CM (aka Cyanogenmod). The "problem" with ROMs is that you will lose all the features built into TouchWiz. Smart scroll, camera app and controls, etc. EVERYTHING, and you'll be down to pretty much pure Android. Now, this might be exactly what you want. BUT be aware there's potential to loose some features that you've come to rely on.

I'd start with getting rid of the bloatware and features you DON'T use, and see if that gets you where you want to be. If not, try various ROMs.

The biggest and MOST IMPORTANT step is to make sure you've got copies of a clean backup. Keep one on your computer, keep one in the cloud, heck put a 3rd copy on a microSD card and keep that in a safe place too. A backup will save your **** if/when things go wrong.

ROMs really come down to personal preference. Each one has features and pitfalls. But that's the great thing about Android and being rooted. It's not hard to find something that works for you... it just takes some trial and error.

*disclaimer* I don't have an S4, but I've found that CM 11 on my GSM Galaxy Nexus is far more stable then the factory ROM. You may find CM isn't what you want or need. Good luck

Hey dancing-bass thanks for the info! I actually went threw and removed alot of the stock bloatware that AT&T pre-loaded on my gs3 definitely cleaner now than it was. I will look into Cyanogen i have seen that quite a few people like it.

Thanks again

I just flashed Cyanogenmod 10.2 4.3 stable on my AT&T GS3. My first ROM, wanted to use what was a stable and least buggy... You lose a few things but gain a few as well. Cyanogenmod is very minimalistic, I like that aspect a lot. Make sure you read plenty before making the jump. Try to ensure you have everything you need before you start it will make installation much easier. Make your backups. I've done well with the CM 10.2 (after 3 days) and it seems to have also calmed my nerves about the whole flashing thing because this phone is my daily use phone and my backup phone is definitely not on par with it. Again read watch a few videos on YouTube, anyway I hope this helps you on your way. Happy New Year!

I'm running Quantum 4.4.2, on my SGSIII, and it's smooth as butter. Check out the new roms, on XDA-Developers website.:p

I put DanKang on my wife's S3 and put a Touchwiz theme on it and it runs smooth as butter. But check out different ROMs to see which one works the best

Thanks for the info guys i will look into the one's that you have mentioned and to be honest i have not heard of a few of them so will do my research thanks again

Are you guys serious? I didn't think it was stable version yet. This phone is my daily driver so... everything has to work like it should. This ROM has great battery life now. But I just might.

Every upgrade on the 4.4.2., makes it better, with even better battery life. I only own one phone, the SGSIII, and the only glitch i've found, is that the voicemail app doesn't work properly. Since i rarely use the voicemail, the trade-off for speed and battery is worth it. Anyway, all the 4.4 apps have that same problem, but i'm sure that it will be fixed soon. This developer(Pwncakes), stays right on top of things, and is constantly tweeking his roms to make them even snappier.:p

Cool, I may have to try it this weekend. Just in case I do something wrong. LOL. I'm on xda as well asking questions on a regular basis. Thanks

SlimBean is also good if you guys don't mind being on 4.3 :p
I'm waiting on SlimKat
