Word of warning - get a screen protector! This thing scratches

Re: Word of warning - get a screen protector! This thing scratche

Again let me say I am sorry your new toy is damaged

It's a few hairline micro-scratches, I'll live LOL. I'm just glad they aren't noticeable while using the phone. Was more posting on here to give a heads up to others.

@predator - The point is how *easily* the screen can scratch.

Rev.

lol. but really you thought it was going to be hard to scratch a screen made of glass? :/

I have a dedicated phone pocket. So nothing goes in with my phone. No worries on scratches :)

Folks, even Guerilla Glass 10 won't keep sand or other smal micro abrasives from scratching your glass. You need to understand that their are hardness levels and that just because it's GG or GG2 doesn't mean it can't be scratched. I always use a screen protector. And I don't buy the crappy ones. I buy the ones that do not affect the quality of the touch experience. They are out there. Get some. I sympathize with the OP here but like Smokey says, "Only you can prevent forest fires." Well, only you can prevent scratches. The glass is going to do all it can. If you are going to rock it naked, it's going to happen.

Which ones?

Don't mean to sound rude, but we know all this. Everyone here knows screens can still scratch. However, some people here have babied their phone and are surprised to still find scratches. Many here have also mentioned owning phones with older glass technology and have had no scratches after two years.

I honestly don't know why this is hard to comprehend for some posters. Maybe some of you are just being too protective/defensive of the S3?

Re: Word of warning - get a screen protector! This thing scratche

lol! your brother tried scratching his phone with his keys just to test it?? wow.. gutsy!

I would always use a screen protector no matter how "scratch proof" or strong Gorilla Glass or any other glass claims. You never know what happens~

Exactly. 99.99999% of the time, keys aren't going to scratch it anyway as mentioned above with the glass being harder than a key. I always laugh at those videos and people assuming the device is invincible. Lets see them rub it back and forth in there pocket 100's of times or slide it across a hardwood/tile floor.

Re: Word of warning - get a screen protector! This thing scratche

It just seems that there are "certain people" that if you look back at their previous threads... you see them always ing and ranting about how this and that is such a huge issue. So after a while you start to take what "they" say with a grain of salt.

Re: Word of warning - get a screen protector! This thing scratche

Can a grain of salt scratch the screen? :p

Re: Word of warning - get a screen protector! This thing scratche

I just removed mine out of my Otterbox Defender case this AM to clean it and still not a single scratch! One of the best investments you can make will be a screen protector for any new device!

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Some probably yes. But you have to take in how everyone handles it. Like I said I have a dedicated phone pocket. So.. My screen has 0 scratches since day 1 and I can show it to prove it.

Imo it seriously is how much you baby it.. Where you lay it... Where you put it to get definite answer as to what will happen... But again i don't doubt some are just being fan boys. It happens.

Impressive scratch test...could it be a one in million defect...or a case of being disingenuous...LOL...on a more serious note, could be that the OP is simply unlucky to get the one from a bad batch....It is still glass no matter how tempered and not transparent aluminum...minute scratches or fracture are not out of the question if it were a full face drop...I do not recall seeing a face first drop test on Android Authority or Phone Arena where the screen hit face first.

Not being defensive at all. I just understand that $h!t happens no matter what anyone or any manufacturer says.

Re: Word of warning - get a screen protector! This thing scratche

Don't forget there's also an Otterbox Commuter, which just doesn't have the screen cover...that's the one that I have. So far, I haven't dropped it, but I'm sure there's no difference in the build quality of the OB Defender and Commuter series. Only reason I chose the Commuter series is because I don't "carry" my phone around, like on a job. I'm a full-time parent, so I'm home most all of the time, unless I run to town and have things to do..if I was on a job, I would have chose the Defender..for ease of carrying (belt clip).

My wife will be getting a white SGS3 for her birthday (which she isn't aware is happening), and I'm getting her the Defender series because she works in a power generation plant for the Power company..dealing with coal and such all the time...so she def needs a rugged, dependable case to protect what I'm going to invest in a phone for her to use.
But the OB Commuter definitely should have it's name brought up as well..it does have the same protective features as the defender without the belt clip/screen film.

Re: Word of warning - get a screen protector! This thing scratche

Thus the advantages of the rugged case like the Defender which has a prominent lip and a non-adhesive screen protector. The prominent lip should absorb most of the shock of a face first drop. The screen protector adds another layer of protection to the GG2.

hey, after using the defender for a while and then removing it. Does it leave scratches on the screen or on the back? Please answer quickly, i'm deciding wether to refund the case or not. Just ordered the defender for the s4.. Also, is the screen protector acceptable, like does it take a lot from the actual 1080 screen. Sorry to be so anal about, just want to be safe :)

You can download the App on Google Play by searching for ?Scratch Protector? or Pluggdd.
Feel free to include a direct link to an app that you're recommending, even if it's your own. Scratch Protector: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...d=com.pluggdd.scratchprotector&token=cadkesqF

I've found this Share Apps http://market.android.com/details?id=com.theronrogers.shareapps to be useful for that purpose.
