Worst Video Camera Ever-I hate this phone.

This past weekend was my daughter's first birthday. When it came to "cake time" I whipped out my Droid Incredible, fired up the video camera and started shooting. Cake--->candles--->Singing--->Eating. The whole 9 yards. At the end, had a one year old covered with cake and 8 minutes of video capturing the whole thing.

Went back to look at the video and it says there is an error and it cannot be viewed. Copied it to my computer. Still an error.

Memories are too precious to trust to this crappy video software. Don't trust it. Camera has been fine. But use something else for video.

I'm so P.O.'ed at the phone right now I want to set it on fire and s*** on the ashes.

As shown in a thread a while back... The phone would probably still work... :)

Sorry about the video... Has this happened before and can you recreate the issue?

Since memories are so precious, why are you not using a quality camcorder? Our phones can't even record in 720p yet.

This is what I came here to post.
While I really feel for you (that really sucks man), I think for my daughter's birthday, I'd spring for a real digital vid cam.

I won't tell you what you should have done but just let you know I'm sorry to hear that. Memories are very precious. I am sorry hear the device failed you in this instance.

The only reason I didn't kill the phone is that there were 4 grandparents 6 aunts and uncles, and about 39 friends there with video and still cameras going..so i will still be able to get a copy somewhere.

I have used the video on this phone maybe 4 or 5 times before. The quality was decent enough and it didn't have a problem. But I've learned my lesson, this is a phone with some neat accessories, but not trustable enough to use as a capture tool. I have enough HD video stuff in the basement to choke an elephant, but they don't exactly slip into the pocket, ya know?

Hopefully, others can learn from this and not make the same mistake.

That sucks, man. I have not had any problems at all with my Incredible's camcorder, but I had lots of issues like that with my old Storm 1. It hosed a recording of my sister jumping and graduating from Airborne school. To the others, this camcorder should be plenty sufficient for this type of recording. Going out to buy a stand-alone video recorder should not be a realistic suggestion. The recorder should work. I'll reiterate, that mine does work fine (although the 720p in the leaked froyo seems a little shaky. The 30 fps limit seems to be an issue. Maybe the official one addresses that).

Well lucky for you they make this new device that's out on the market called a camcorder. I hear it's really good to use when you need to capture those once in a lifetime moments. Some of them even use SD cards!

Mine records 720p perfectly fine. Never had an issue, but I don't think I would be using my phone for moments I want to know for sure I have recorded......

bad logic

a) The app is called "camcorder"

b) According to this logic, I should get an Ipod for when I have a long trip and will absolutely need something that will play music and video, and a blackberry for when I absolutely need Email, and maybe a Razr for when I absolutely will need a phone. My belt will look batman.

The point is...the app is flawed. Don't trust it.

Was the error something along the lines of "that filetype is not recognized"? I had that problem recording something with my Storm a few days before I tossed it. I couldn't play in on the Storm or on the computer. You would think that the phone that just recorded a file could play that file. Ridiculous!

Camera/Camcorder has worked out perfectly for me at least. I recorded my sons kinder graduation in 720P and it plays back perfectly.

Does it at least play back the video on your phone?

I'll address this one at a times I guess.

a) And Yellow truck line has orange trucks.....what's you point?

b)No according to my logic if you are going to want to perform, well, a task you need equipment made for the task at hand. Sure a bicycle can get me across the country but I would rather use a car or maybe fly. Expecting a piece of general equipment to perform as well as specialized equipment or to rely upon it as if it were going to be 100% should not be done.

Exactly the "app"......Should he be mad that the app messed up sure why not it was a once in a lifetime thing.....enough to rant on a board? Not at all.....it's a PHONE that happens to do other things. Don't always trust the other things to always work perfectly in all situations. Especially at a once in a lifetime I want to email people the video type situations. For those "oh cool" moments that you get home and go "crap" it didn't record oh well, move about your business things it will be ok. Simple as that.

I didn't try it through Astro...I'll take a look at that one. I took a few other videos later in the day and they worked okay. I was able to play them back on my phone without any issues. Maybe it was the lengh? All the other clips were less than 5 mins long and played back okay. Don't know

Qazme>> I guess we have different viewpoints. I expect more from this device and I don't think "crap, it didn't record" is acceptable.

try using VLC on the PC, see if that lets you see the video.... My old Storm 2 did the same thing while recording a modified barium swallow... does suck!

No I have the same viewpoint as you, it really sucks it didn't work correctly for you. But then again if video memories are highly important to you I would suggest investing in a better quality camcorder than what you get on a phone. That's the point I was trying to make. I wasn't knocking you per say I was just pointing out a different approach to what you figured out.

Is the file on your phone? Like stated have you tried playing it with VLC? Maybe you want to upload it and see if someone else can view it? There may even be some video guru's here that can make it work.

"The point is...the app is flawed. Don't trust it."<--I really don't think you should make such a bold statement, a better statement would be "My Device is flawed". I have used the camcorder and camera on my incredible probably 200+ times since I got my phone a month after launch. I have NOT had a single problem with either, to be honest, i have not had a problem with anything on this phone except the force close on a few apps that were from marketplace anyway. My only gripe is that I wish the music volume would be a little louder (which is besides the point). Anyway, it is completely incorrect to say the app itself is flawed when you and you alone are the only one making this complaint in the thread. Just sayin', not trying to be a jerk.

Well, Beef, I'm with Q. I feel bad for you but lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

If you think the cam on the dinc is crap...man, you should have experienced the storm 1.
To take pics on it, you had to warm it up 30 minutes prior to when you might have to take a photo, and then hope the thing doesn't freeze when you press the screen, not dedicated button, for the photo.
