Worth Switching from Exchange to Google?

^ These were absolutely perfect. Thanks

I have a Google Apps account that uses *myname@mycomany.com
I was having trouble getting all this to work with Google Apps so I created another account with Gmail and have everything forwarded to the *mycompany@gmail.com
Thunderbird works great for Gmail accounts, I'm just having trouble with my Google Apps account. No big deal... Like i said, I'll have all *myname@mycomany.com email forward to *mycompany@gmail.com

However, I will surely be on the lookout for syncing all my PIM from my Google Apps account and I'll post back here if I find something.

Integrating EVO and Android onto the PC Desktop
i had an epiphany tonight that might help some of you. i wanted quick, easy, seamless integration "one stop shopping" of my Contacts, Calendar, and Gmail on my PC. on the PC - up until now - i was using Thunderbird for Gmail, Firefox for Web Surfing, and i had no easy Contacts and Calendar PC solution except for using Firefox to just browse to it. this was all fragmented and slow and clumsy. coming from Palm Desktop i wanted something quick, easy, and integrated (although Palm Desktop didn't have email - i had to use Outlook Express in the past).

anyway - here is my EVO/Android Desktop/PC solution -

1. Ditch Firefox, Explorer, Outlook, Thunderbird. ditch them all.
2. Download and Install and Use the Chrome Browser exclusively.
3. Download and Install these 3 Chrome Extensions -
A. Google Calendar Checker
B. Google Contacts
C. Google Mail Checker

now you will have ONE app and one interface to surf the web and quick and easy access/notifications to check email, access contacts, and access your calendar. if you have multiple accounts, just have Chrome remember your usernames and passwords and it's an easy click to jump back and forth between each account.

this all in one solution is working great so far and i'd like to hear any ideas to improve it.

thanks.

I moved from exchange to google apps to save money about two years ago and haven't looked back. I love it!

First Android phone - EVO. I came from a Treo 800w using a personal exchange server. I was pleasantly surprised that the EVO just downloaded everything and set things up perfectly.

I have been reading and getting confused about the use of gmail in lieu of the exchange server. Most threads are about set up, but I want to know if there is an advantage to switching from Exchange to Gmail? My Exchange account is working just fine, but it is $12-15/mo. Not expensive, but that amounts to half the cost of adding Mobile Hotspot, so I am wondering if it would be worth my effort to migrate my data from Exchange to Google, and then terminate the exchange server account altogether. I understand that Google is not quite ready to handle tasks well, but that is ok. As long as I get my calendar, email, and contacts.

So....any advantage to switching over to Google?

If you're using Exchange for your personal email, then I would suggest using Google's FREE service.

If what you need is Google Apps for your Domain, my wife's company uses name@hercompany.com, but it is powered by Gmail/Google. Meaning, her employees login using webmail.hercompany.com, but it is the same interface as Gmails. Moreover, all her people use Google's sync with their phones. I mean, free enterprise level email for the domain, free push email for phones, and free work IM for everyone, and an interface that all the employees are familiar with. Really can't get better than that.

You're having trouble with opening your email from myname@mycompany.com on the Evo?
