Worth upgrading from gear 2?

I have had the original Gear, the Gear Neo and the Moto 360 and this is by far my favorite watch. The fact that when I forget to grab my phone and walk away, I still get my text messages and calls makes this the watch to have.

But how do you pair your phone sim with your watch sim? Are you on the same number? Sadly here in UK only O2 have it via carrier

What you guys think? Anybody upgraded from any of the other gear devices?

Honestly I'm not sure, after the watch died on me after 6 hours my Gear 2 was right back on my wrist. If my Gear 2 had independence i probably wouldn't have upgraded at all. Nothing looks better than the Gear S though, that **** is a Boss on the wrist. This is day 2 for me I need more testing and time breaking the battery in I guess. I think the software needs more optimization as of right now I feel I have to manually change around a **** load of options just trying to make the battery last. My Gear 2 is a instant go simply because it works and last. I sent all my test from the keyboard on my Gear 2 without worrying about battery. Time will tell for the S. I buy products with the intention of using them like I want and not worrying about battery life. I'm not there with my S yet.

Dante314, I have been following your battery woes and it does seem like you have a lemon. While I am not getting 30-40 hours like some people are reporting, I used it for 15 hours and had 25 percent left. That is also with the brightness set to 100 percent. Today is my second day also and I am curious to see how it goes. I have had it on for 4 hours and I am at 91%. Can you not swap it under warranty?

I had the original gear, and the gear 2. IMO, both of those were over my head. :) However, I like the latest pizzazz, and the Gear S is the latest pizzazz. I only had it two days, but I feel like I already got my $400 worth in the joy and smiles it has produce from ME!!. That is a function some people don't mention. ;)

The looks, OMG. :D The looks are killer, pure dee killer. :D

I've had the gear neo, gear 2 and the motor 360. The gear s is the first one that I haven't considered returning after the first week. I think this is a great watch.

You need a separate sim. The new Gear S sim will have a separate number for outgoing calls etc. My Galaxy s5 is on EE and I'm just gonna put a GiffGaff (o2 network) sim in it which is pretty cheap. Hate the fact o2 have got exclusivity here just now.

Thats the thing I don't see a point in putting a sim in it if the number is different.

those who had the gear 2, what makes the gear S that much better?

You can always share a sim card if you want the same number and use the watch independently.

I had the OG Gear and then the Gear 2. I actually returned the Gear 2 because after I upgraded my OG Gear to Tizen there wasn't a big enough difference between the two to justify all the money. I mean the Gear 2 looked better, but that was it and it actually had a weaker vibration than the Gear.

That being said the Gear S is a HUGE improvement. The giant screen is awesome, the keyboard is awesome, the Internet is usable and being able to use it with out a phone is a huge plus.

How would you share the same number?

I skipped the Gear, have the Gear 2 and can tell you the S is so much better in a few key areas that I can't imagine sporting the Gear 2 again. #1 for me is the screen (touch sensitivity, screen display-size in general). #2 is the speaker and being able to actually use this as a real phone w/out BT. Being able to answer calls and make calls from the wrist and not having to pull out my phablet has been KEY to my satisfaction. My Gear 2's speaker is horrid and I swapped it out twice thinking I had a bad unit but all three were equally poor. Battery life is probably the only thing that is not as good as my Gear 2, but how can we expect it to be. 3G, WIFI, Remote Connection, Always on, Auto etc... Way too many things in the mix. It's easy to drain your S in an hour (3G/Stream - been there done that...) If I mange my connections I can get a full day - or close to it. I'm at just about 12 hours of use Today (8 mile Run 6:30 AM) - typical use all day -- no big phone calls on the S as I now use it to launch the call then transfer it over to my N4. S is the best phone watch you can buy .... until (90 days from now) when Samsung releases the Gear T.

May I ask how do you get notifications like for facebook, twitter? do you get them the same way as when the phone is paired with the watch?

If my phone is home and I am out with just the Gear S around people, can I use a bluetooth headset to talk to the person from my watch?

So just ask my carrier for the same sim that I have for my note 4? so the gear S would work with any sim?

No you can't get a clone sim card (at least here in the UK anyway). You can use it without a sim card if you wish and only ever have it paired with your phone via bluetooth, buy if you want to leave your phone at home and take only the Gear S you will need a sim card in it and it will have to be an extra call plan/new number (sim only plan on your current network perhaps?, or a pay as you go sim from any network). Then the Gear S will work standalone using its own number or you can use Remotely Connected mode where your phone relays all your calls/messages/notifications to your Gear S via cellular network. Kinda like call forwarding
