Would the Evo be good enough to replace my Zune?

I listen to a lot of podcasts and music, no radio. Would the Evo provide a good enough experience? It would be hooked to a radio by fm transmitter or aux cable.

I've been using it with the beta Audible app for audio books and Rhapsody for music. So far I've been fine without my Zune. I haven't tried podcasts yet, but I imagine it would work just as well as the audio books.

It could replace your Zune unless you're a Zune pass subscriber like me. When I want music on my EVO I fire up Pandora. For my collection I still use my Zune. Maybe one day I'll put my absolute favorite songs on my EVO.

the EVO is in the process of replacing my ipod touch. sound quality (bass) isn't that great, but overall I could see myself selling my ipod very soon

I have zune pass, so my zune HD is not replaced. If you wait, a windows 7 phone towards the end of the year (and HTC is building several), should fit the bill. Windows 7 is using the interface similar to the Zune HD.

I would agree except I don't want to jump on version 1 of a new OS again (webOS). Maybe when they update it to at least 1.5 it'll be ready to compete. I agree that the hardware will be great, but I'm gonna wait and see what the OS is like before I say I'll get WP7. I like the concept and what I've seen, but part of it seems too Apple like for me.

WELL, I have the 120gig Zune, so EVO can't replace that yet cuz right now you can only go as high as 32GIG micro chip...

However, I don't have 120GIG of stuff on my Zune and I did load a bunch of songs on my EVO, then got AudioPlayer with EQ and used my dual male cord to go from my EVO to my AUX in on my truck Stereo, just like I do with my Zune, and it works GREAT!!!!

When ever I use my EVO for Navigation or music I always plug it in to the Mobile charger anyway, so that's not an issue either.

I go to the gym with my Zune stuck in an arm band and since Zune gets Radio too, and the battery lasts longer, then I'll prob never stop using the Zune for that.

you could spend $800 on microSD cards. lol :p

i used to carry all of my music with me. now i just keep playlists on me. My zuneHD only has 16gb of storage.

It replaced my Zune HD. I still have the zune pass, which I use quite a bit, plus my son still has a Zune. And if you must, there are ways to remove DRM from pass music.

I find that for music, Last.fm works great and saves space and upload time. I am a big podcast fan, and Dogcatcher is the best app ever, for video and audio. Audible has a great app for books, far better than the Zune.

With a good set of microphone earbuds, you can listen and pick up a call, then go right back to where you were.

It's way more fun than the Zune and I don't miss it one bit.

Way better than your zune. I listen to a lot of podcasts too and I have this app called "listen" from google on it. Downloads all my podcasts, over the air, directly to the phone. I used to have to hook up my mp3 player directly to my computer to transfer my podcasts, now all my podcasting is done on the phone.

Really nice.

And as far as music goes, sure, the max class 6 speed sdhc micro card is 16 gigs, but I have an ftp server with all my music on it. If I get a wild hair up my ass to listen to an album that's not on there, I can ftp in and download the album pretty quickly. Very very handy.

I used to listen to podcasts on my iPhone, but now I use my Evo with the app called BeyondPod. Downloads new episodes automatically, and keeps your place just like the iPhone, except its very visual on BeyondPod....I couldn't imagine doing it the way I was doing it with my iPhone now....

Music is alright...Certainly not as good as an iPhone or iPod, but its usable. Stock HTC player is probably the best, just cause of how it implements the lock-screen controls. bTunes is also quite good, and has its own sort of lock screen controls too.

Speaking of the music player, is there any way to prevent the screen from turning off when using the music player? Or at least when plugged into a power source? When I'm listening to music in the car, I want to keep the display turned on.

free app called "quick settings" has an option to toggle screen time out to on / off. I use this when doing pandora or podcasts while plugged in (in the car).

I have never used Zune so I can not compare in terms of sound quality. I listen to podcasts and radio as well, I use two apps for this: Listen (free from Goggle) for podcasts and RadioTime (paid app). For MP3 playing, the stock player satisfy my basic needs.

Listen will allow you to subscribe to you favorite podcast providers and automatically download new content on a user defined schedule. Syncs with Google docs so you can actually subscribe on any computer while browsing and will automatically sync with your phone.

RadioTime has a very extensive collection of radio stations and also can play (but not download) podcasts from many providers. The app however, does not provide for any user added streams.

I am still keeping my ZuneHD. I just prefer the interface for interacting with my music on the Zune, as well as zunepass.

It can't replace the ZuneHD for me due to Zune Pass, battery life, and sound quality. The EVO lacks all 3, although the sound quality on the EVO isn't bad. I can listen to my ZuneHD forever without charging it or ever turning it off, it seems. The EVO I have to charge nightly.

I don't bother putting my music on the EVO, although I do use the EVO to listen to Pandora, Last.FM, and NPR.
