Would The Note 7 Do Better Than The S7 Againts The iPhone In Water Dunk Test?

A new video by EverythingApplePro has people talking.... The iPhone lasted longer than the s7 dispite having a lower ip rating. I would take this test with a grain of salt, but would the Note 7 do any differently?

They get the rating by meeting the standards of the rating. There is no other criteria. There are no alternate methods.

The iPhone 7 is IP67 rated, which means it's can go to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Samsung has an IP68 rating, which goes to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

It's important to note that neither rating is for any kind of additional pressure, steam, or chemicals. So showers are not a good idea, neither is holding it under a faucet. Chlorine from pool water is also not great.

I would not take the results of one video as conclusive at all or proof of anything.

Haha well, unkind ppl suggest you put the note 7 in a bucket of water when charging to keep it cool and stop it exploding......

Let me rephrase; depends on the design decisions made to get the IP ratings.

Just because something meets specifications doesn't mean how it meets those specifications are irrelevant; there are several design choices (gasket placement etc) that can lead to the same IP68 rating, that doesn't mean the 'performance' in these designs when it comes to things not measured by the IP standard are all equal.

That test also went out of bounds for the IP rating and out out some pretty Shakey "iPhone is better" conclusions. The S7 simply wouldn't power on...which can be the fail safe if too many systems are compromised....the iPhone device exhibited signs of water damage and was less functional. You know what to conclusions you can draw from that test? That neither was designed to be down 35 feet and both failed, and for a simple reason - they weren't designed to do that.

What would be interesting to know is how they both failed after a rice sauna and how long it took to bring them back to life.
