Would those nude celebrity photos have been hacked if they were all using S5 instead of 5s?

I've owned Android phones for over 4 years. (Samsung, HTC, Motorola) None of them have ever had any kind of service that automatically upload my photos to the cloud. Is this something that only Apple iPhones have? If so, maybe I should switch to iPhones. :(

You know how to stop naked pictures of yourself from ending up online???? Don't take naked pictures of yourself. Pretty simple.

Why would they think their pictures would be safe in the first place?
Hey everyone why not just stop taking nude pictures?
Regardless, I gotta think that if their photos were stored on a cloud service with 2-step login verification, this probably wouldn't have happened. But I really wouldn't expect too many celebrities to know about 2 step verification.

The hacks were NOT based off the phone, but the service of which the files were stored on. The ONLY reason the phone is a factor is because it's an Apple exclusive service. The photos were "hacked" via the service by brute force attack which has zero to do with the device.
It's based on the security of the service.

That being said, Apple, Android, Windows, Blackberry, or other, as long as the cloud service is not properly protected this could happen (Again).

Gotta believe they posted them there without a thought for safety -or- hoping they would be pirated in hopes of furthering a career or two.

Yes. Apple has stated the pictures were stolen via legitimate login, so it could've happened using any site. Their privacy was invaded and that is wrong but at this stage of the game, they've gotta know the rules by now. They should've known better.

Yep, hackers can hack pretty much anything related to Internet or programming.

Dumb asses shouldn't have posted them in my opinion....do they honestly think that they are exempt from the rules of the Internet? ;)

Boom! From My S5

Its possible .

I'm sure the hacker would have found a way.

My account was hacked once. Where was the FBI then? WTF? oh yeah I am not a "celebrity" Like we haven't seen enough naked pics of celeb sluts.

Because the FBI is busy with other criminals

It's not simply because their celebs (most being C and D-list), it's that it was SO many. Just like with many other crimes. One car is stolen, one store is robbed, who cares. But 70+ are stolen and robbed, the feds appear.

On a side note, I find it funny that 1 male celeb's pictures were also leaked, but you don't hear his name being tossed around. "99 women and 1 guy or something had their accounts hacked. Here's what the 99 women and I guess the 1 guy have to save about it"

FBI is extremely busy at the moment. They have to catch all those people who illegally download hardcore porn from the internet. What? You don't know what I'm talking about? Haven't you seen those FBI warning messages that plays before hardcore porn videos start? :D

Yes I've seen FBI warning and they shut www.megaupload.com

I don't have time to watch full videos. I just skim the inter webs for the highlights.

Both Android & iOS have 2-step verification. Its up to the user to enable it.

Alas, apple's I cloud and photo stream backups aren't protected by their 2 - factor authentication. So even if the celebs had two factor, would have been bypassed. Google and Microsoft both do it the right way.

you mean Google+? I've never used it. In fact, I dont' have any of the Google services turned on on my phones. I also don't use Gmail.... so I guess that's why.

First, they didn't "post them." iPhones automatically back up images to Apple's cloud servers. Second, these aren't tech geeks. Most of them probably didn't even know the pictures were being copied to "the internet" or that a cloud is anything other than a white fluffy thing in the sky.

Apple's denying all responsibility, but any system that allows an unlimited number of invalid login attempts without locking the account is flawed, and that's Apple's fault.

Android phones have the ability to do that (Google +), but it's not enabled by default.
