Would you order iPhone if avaiable at VZW today?

Would you switch to iPhone if it's available at VZW today?

Thanks guys. Great sense of community here. I pretty much was told to piss off when I emailed the support link at AppleInsider telling them that they should stop running so much anti-Android news on their front page.

Anyways, I do love the iPhone. Doesn't mean I don't also love my new Droid X, but I have already sunk hundreds of dollars into iPhone apps, and now that my company switched to Verizon, they're fairly useless to me. Also, there's a few things that were super easy on my iPhone that I can't do on my Droid X (search Exchange email without downloading an entirely new email client - easily use bluetooth headset controls to pause what i'm listening to).

However I do love the flexibility of the Android platform where if I don't like the GUI, I can replace it with a different launcher. That's really great, and very much appreciated. Both platforms have their pros and cons.

I always find these iPhone vs Android threads interesting... what I find more interesting is that the "Great Schism" in the tech world has switched from OSX vs Windows to iOS vs Android.

Nobody really talks about desktop computers anymore... desktops have become passe.

OK... back to our regularly scheduled program.

You're right about that.

For the most part, what you can do with one desktop OS you can do with the other. I just boils down to UI and sometimes Apps. There is of course hardware options and price, but I don't think they make as much of an impact as they used to. As to them being passe. That's probably true for the mainstream. I don't have the kinds of conversations with people that I used to about PC's.

Phones on the other hand are still evolving and each generation is vastly superior to the last. This is especially true for those of us who only upgrade when our contracts expire. There is still plenty of room for growth. I think it satisfies our need to drool over what's next.

as a mac user at home and at work, i probably would, just for the compatibility - but i'll say this, before the droid x, i wouldn't have said PROBABLY - I DEFINITELY would have switched - the longer they take to get the iphone, and assuming 2.2 fixes most of the issues i'm having (exchange, having to keep checking if it's sleeping or killing battery / manually turning off GPS, etc), the less likely i'll switch, at least until i'm due for a new phone.

Nope I will stick with the Droid X!!! I just like the Freedom I have with the Droid X.. Not being stuck in the Box like with the IPhone.

If Verizon had gotten the iPhone before I got my DX I might have, but after having the DX for a little over a month I can see no reason to.
I am completely happy with what I have now, or will be when the froyo OTA arrives and I have flash.

I'll never go back to the iPhone....I have to support approx. 20 iphones at work (11 4's, 6 3GS, 3 3G) and I came from a 3G myself....and I have nothing but praise for Android over Apples crapcentric, all icon, interface. Apple is way too closed of a garden IMO....(and yes, my 3G was jailbroken).

I'm sticking with Android for the foreseeable future :-)

If Motorola does something I don't like, I can always move to HTC or Samsung or whoever else is out there and most of my accessories and nearly all of my apps will work (generic case, USB power, I avoid docks and extended batteries for that reason).

Apple does something I don't like (well, that's already happened) and I'm out all my apps, all my proprietary accessories, pretty much I start over.

Android is so much more flexible in allowing us to switch hardware vendors with little to no pain while Apple you're locked in to one company for hardware, software AND apps.
This, to me, is the main strength of staying with android. I saw one tech blogger put it like this...(paraphrased) 'While Apple has been on the quest to make the One Perfect Phone, Android manufacturers have been busy making A Bunch Of Perfectly Good Phones'...and I love that promise of choice, competition, and variety. If there's something I don't like about my phone, there its probably a way to change it or mod it...and if not, there are several other android phones to choose from at any given time. I think Apple may have messed up when it created the fervent public demand for apptastic mobiles that do everything in one, and then made it unavailable for years to anyone not willing to be on at&t..the door was wide open for android and the manufacturers. I agree with the previous post that an iphone proper may never be on verizon, only because it makes less and less sense every quarter that goes by for vzw to do the apple deal, as the android arsenal of devices just grows and grows, and sells and sells.
So, I guess I'm a no. last year, I would have said yes.

When it comes to mobile phones, I have learned never to say never.

That's totally fair, but (for me) at this point I'd say it's more likely to be interested in a disruptive Storm 4 with LTE and QNX OS then a repeat of the iPhone 4 with a manufacturing fix for an antenna problem that any undergraduate physics degree should have forseen seen. It'll be a 7-9 month old phone (at the earliest).

Let me say that IF an iPhone launches on VZ in January 1st (and I'd say that Q2 is still unlikely but the earliest realistic date) that the VZ iPhone would probably be the best selling phone model for VZ for that first quarter, but at an OS level it would still be outsold by Android phones, even before figuring in other carriers.

Apple was trying to maximize profits the last couple years rather than marketshare, so in a way you can say they aren't losing, they're just competing for a different title. That's fine, but it's what was said in the Mac vs PC wars too...

I would say negative. I like not having people tel me how to run my phone and how not to run it. Freedom baby.

I had considered an iphone at the time I bought my Storm1 and had Verizon had the iphone when I renewed my contract with them then I probably would have an iphone right now...despite my hatred for Apple FBs. Having said that, I love my DX and couldn't see myself jumping ship.

I do really wish RIM would get their head out of their *** and make a device to compete. Sadly, they have NOTHING right now that can compare.

No, No, No, hell no, no f-ing way, and nope. Who the hell wants a locked down piece of single tasking crap with expensive apps?

No, I wouldn't. I had a 3gs - paid the Verizon early termination fee, and went to AT&T - for about 3 months, then paid the early termination fee and went back to Verizon. iPhone was kind of cool - and I jailbroke it an all, and it was fun......but, it would not hold a phone call.

So, I traded in on a Storm. That lasted less than 24 hours. Went to a Blackberry Curve, then a Tour....now, a Droid X.

I've rooted the Droid, and trolled the Marketplace - found a bunch of nice applications that emulate what I liked about the blackberry, and life is good.

I don't seen anything in an iPhone that would make me want to drop my Droid X. Sure, it is a sexy little package - but it is LITTLE. Droid is big. Easy to type on, and....well, as they say it just DOES what I want.

So...bring on the Verizon iPhone......I won't be buying one.

Dang your phone hobby is expensive...

I was going to say the same exact thing, LOL.

To answer the question, I had thought about it and if it would have came out the same time as the X, I would have seriously contemplated it but I think I would have gone with the X anyways.

Probably not. Haven't given my DroidX a good runthrough.
