So I been wanting to root to put on some cpu managing to help with battery, and maybe a little overclocking, but unfortunately I'm 1.5, and I just don't know how I feel that HTC would know I rooted, in case something happens with the phone. My pre was rooted and still runs today, but I don't trust my luck.

Plus I noticed that to do deep rooting you need a lot of extra work with 1.5 since it doesn't do s-off... which is kind of silly.

So, what would YOU do. I know the big selling points are wifi tethering (meh, which my battery life) and recovery... should I think about anything else?

Is there a guide somewhere on how to root 1.5. The ones I have found so far are for 1.3 & 1.4. I'm trying to help a friend root his 1.5.

You can just follow the guides on here, they are pretty straight foreward. They work for any of the boot series, however when you load a ROM you will need a few more steps. ;)

afaik the htc method is the only way to root a 1.5 phone. Just did it myself recently easy as pie

I did it and I couldn't be happier with my decision. CkeanROM 2.7, bcblend kernel....

Same. Def worth doing and flashing a Rom really doesn't take too much extra.. You'll notice a the difference with a custom Rom after you root it

How do you know if you have 1.5? I am having trouble doing a temp root.

Did you take the last OTA - not the security update today? If so, then you would be on 1.5. here is the thread on xda to root with 1.5: [GUIDE] HTC Unlock Hboot 1.50 + TWRP Recovery + Root + Flash Ur Ass Off! [9.11.11] - xda-developers . Enjoy your new phone once rooted and put on a custom ROM. CleanROM is a fantastic one if you want to keep it pretty much the stock feel without the bloatware and some nice things added with great battery life. :)

you could also turn off fastboot in settings>power then power off the phone and restart while holding the volume down + power button. should be on the top

I was about to root my evo 3d using the htc method but I decided to wait since there is no way to revert back. I will wait to see if a 1 click or other method comes up for the 1.50 ota. If by end of year there is no different method for the htc root I will just do it that way. It won't matter anyway since in June I will be using my last yearly upgrade anyway. Hopefully an lte htc phone will be out by then.
