Would you say.....Thunderbolt is another Evo

For those that complain about there bing SLCD and not SAMOLED. My wife has and Droin Inc and I have the Droid X and she's always complaining that she can't see her screen when outside in bright sunlight and I never have any problem. Super AMOLED is not all it's claimed to be, at least for all around use.

Your wife's Dinc doesn't have super AMOLED. It's either SLCD or AMOLED. The Super AMOLEDs make quite a difference in outdoors.

There are some similarities, and to be honest I'm pretty underwhelmed by the specs. Back when I bought my Fascinate I was actually wishing there was an Evo like phone on Verizon. If this had come out last year, I would have bought in in a heartbeat, now though it seems like an also ran. Yeah so the CPU is a newer version, it still isn't an extremely significant upgrade, the extra memory is nice, but I doubt you can see any real world benefit from it, maybe in a benchmark.

If you're not going to see any real-world benefit between first gen Snapdragons and 2nd gen, then you certainly would not see any real-word benefit from a dual-core.

The Thunderbolt is like and Evo, but not in every way. It is SLIGHTLY upped in specs...

And to be honest, for those that are saying its like an upgrade to the Evo or what the NEXT Evo should be. No.

I own an Evo and would be pretty upset if the "next Evo" had these specs. The Evo came out 6 months ago and is still a FANTASTIC handset that is up to the speed of technology and still considered one of the best devices out. Thunderbolt's not out, so you cant even put it in the race yet.

My next Evo better wow me as much as my first Evo did ;):p

?
PS. NO hate whatsoever to the VZ folks, just giving my 2 cents.

I would consider a gpu that's 4 times as powerful coupled with a cpu that's twice as efficient, much more than a slight upgrade. I would call it a phone that makes the evo look ancient in comparison. Let's not forget about the ram increase, the inclusion of a 32 gig sd card in comparison to an 8gig, a way better speaker and the obvious advantage super lcd has over regular.

This. Anyone who thinks the Thunderbolt is only a "slight" refresh to the EVO just isn't paying attention.

Maybe we should blame Qualcomm for not distinguishing their chipsets better.

No, thats basically the only upgrade aside fromt he Sense software itself (And RAM)!

Ok, so a more efficient chipset, its like a Palm Pre to a Palm Pre Plus.

Evo, 6 months ago, still kicking strong.

Thunderbolt, 1 month from now(or more), not even kicking yet.

To me, SLIGHT upgrade.

No one has said the EVO is not a great device.

You can have your opinion that the processor is a slight upgrade, but the fact remains the MSM8655 and Adreno 205 are major improvements to the QSD8650 and Adreno 200.

Adreno 205 features:

Hardware-accelerated SVG and Adobe Flash?
Significant improvements in shader performance over Adreno 200 GPU
Streaming textures that can combine video, camera, SVG and other image surfaces with 3D graphics

Based on the early benchmark results, Adreno 205 is expected to be about four times faster than Adreno 200. Samsung's Hummingbird with PowerVR SGX540 is expected to beat Adreno 205 by a small margin, however. Still, given that nothing touches the performance of SGX540 today (that's right, iPhone 4 is not even close!), this is quite an improvement.
What is Adreno 205 and how does it compare to other GPUs? - Smartphone Benchmarks (SmartBench 2010/Quadrant) Forum

Benchmarks, including an EVO equivalent in the Nexus One:

3DMarkMobile GPU showdown: Adreno 205 vs PowerVR SGX540 – Android and Me

The 205 is clearly a massive improvement over the 200. I'm not sure how anyone could draw a different conclusion from this data.

50% more RAM, 7GB more internal storage, Dolby speakers, wireless N, dual mic noise cancellation, and LTE are icing on the cake of this clearly upgraded chipset.

So basically your saying an off the shelf compaq running vista, pentium D @2.8 ghz, 2gb ram, 6000 series nvida card pushing out to a 20 wide ccfl backlit screen would be real close to a HP running win 7, i5 @2.3ghz, 3gb of ram, 9000 series card slammin a new crisp led backlight? You cant compare the chips just based on efficiency as in batt life or a few extra clock cycles. Just because the CPU, GPU, RAM and wireless cards are in similar towers dont mean they will game the same, not even like a slight upgrade.

i agree! but wouldnt you want it on a better! Network..and better model its like comparing a _67fastback mustang_ to a new 2011 shelby GT..new model and internal tech! :D

Sir, I did not say that, haha.

The latter you mentioned would most likely be tri/quad core cpu while the first would be single core, dual core AT BEST. You cannot compare these two. That there is a world of difference.

If the Thunderbolt had a dual core processor, THEN Id consider it a blown out upgrade in terms of specs.

Im only speaking my opinion. And I said if the second Evo came out with the Thunderbolts specs I wouldnt consider it a worthy upgrade for an Evo1 to an Evo2.

Of course if I could have chosen the Thunderbolts specs over the Evos specs to begin with 6mos ago, obviously I'd pick the Thunderbolt spec sheet.

Dont get too sensitive folks. Im not knocking anybody or anything. Never said the Thunderbolt sucked, haha.

A phone's popularity often drives the level of product support it will receive. I'd rather people be informed about factual improvements of the Thunderbolt over previous devices than be swayed by this simplistic "it's a slightly upgraded EVO" rhetoric being repeated in forums and comments all across the Android scene. If the upgrades aren't enough for YOU to switch, that's fine. Just don't profess your perceived acceptability of the improvements as fact, like you did here:

The Thunderbolt is like and Evo, but not in every way. It is SLIGHTLY upped in specs...

We were pointing out that you're wrong. Again, maybe it's not enough to make you move from your current device, but you have no factual basis to state it's only slightly upgraded from the EVO. It's thoroughly upgraded and will perform remarkably better in the consumer's hands. So let's try to keep people informed, not confused by personal preferences stated as fact.

Agreed. The T-Bolt is not a slight upgrade over the Evo any more than the Bionic is a a slight upgrade over the X.

The T-Bolt sounds like a really good phone. Newer and more powerful chipset, more memory, the new Sense (Finally!), LTE and a better display technology to boot. Now only if the battery were bigger.

Right now I have an X and have enjoyed it (the "Blur" stuff that gets posted is nonsensical - the newer Blur as seen in the X and Droid 2 is not bad and visually is close to stock). But I came to the X from a DInc that the lack of battery life (I am on the road a lot) and too small screen (I use my phone also as an eReader and the smaller screen was not working well for that) finally drove me to sell and go to an X. But I did like Sense and the phone itself was solid, so the T-Bolt may bring me back to HTC.

But it is dual core my analogy is very close Pentium D 840 series is dual cores @ 2.8ghz and the i5 450 series is a dual core @2.3 but turbo boosts to 2.8 but you are right it this is an apples to oranges comparison which the point I was trying to make. Im not sensitive bout it at all, nor do think the Evo is a bad phone in the slightest infact I feel it is a great phone which is why Im so excited. I was just saying I really dont feel that there is just a slight difference between the two.

I was waiting to see if anyone would catch your analogy - which required remembering what a Pentium D actually was....

Ok. Case is closed.

Opinions are opinions, not factual or anything that requires evidence.

i5s are not limited to dual core, hence what I said.

But let us move along now....

Want to know what it is, all of us that have evos find it hard to say that these new devices are better. But come on guys it's been over 6 months the thunderbolt has to be better like it supposed to be better, and it is. And we can only hope that in 5 months from now when our upgrades are here there will be an evo 2 and. That it will be way better than the evo when it first came out. **** lets stop hating thats how technology supposed to be right...

i cant believe someone hasnt said it yet. the thunderbolt is almost identical to the desirehd. it even looks like it. same processor, 4.3, dolby sound, sense 2.5, 768 ram, im not sure if it has FFC. obviously it is not 4g.

this phone is obiously going to be nice and i am a big HTC supporter as i truly believe sense is top dawg of skins, but when you consider that it is being released literally within weeks or possibly months of other offerings like lg 2x, atrix, bionic. it pales in comparison. my biggest gripes are:

no dual core processor
1400mah battery laughable
no freaking hdmi? dlna sux ass! hdmi mirroring is where its at.
screen resolution
screen technology i wouldnt not buy it because of this but when coupled with resolution let down

my opinion is that i may buy this on one year and wait till round two of dual cores, but if bionic doesnt have locked bootloader it can consider itself already in my pocket! the reasons:

dual core tegra 2 monster, look up info on gtablet developers, this thing flies
qhd screen
hdmi mirroring
1900mah battery

edit* oh yeah DDR2 RAM

Just seen this link HTC Thunderbolt Leak: Price and Release Date Info » Spry Mobile. This was on another thread but it says the TB could be released at 299$ as other "high-end" smartphones. Now it doesnt say the TB would be 299$ specifically but theres no chance id pay 300$ for the TB. Id bounce to Sprint and pay 49$ for an EVO. I cant see VZW doing that with the Iphone being priced at 199$. I dunno im ignorant to these things so i dunno.
