Would you say.....Thunderbolt is another Evo

This. Anyone who thinks the Thunderbolt is only a "slight" refresh to the EVO just isn't paying attention.

Maybe we should blame Qualcomm for not distinguishing their chipsets better.

No. It's people that really don't understand hardware running their mouth cause they're on a forum and think they know. Anybody with an understanding of electronic hardware will see the same clock speed, but the different chipset part # and go, "Huh, wonder what's the difference?" And then go look it up.

The people running their mouths stop when they see "1GHz" and go, "It's the same processor, this phones a joke."

Sir, I did not say that, haha.

The latter you mentioned would most likely be tri/quad core cpu while the first would be single core, dual core AT BEST. You cannot compare these two. That there is a world of difference.

If the Thunderbolt had a dual core processor, THEN Id consider it a blown out upgrade in terms of specs.

Im only speaking my opinion. And I said if the second Evo came out with the Thunderbolts specs I wouldnt consider it a worthy upgrade for an Evo1 to an Evo2.

Of course if I could have chosen the Thunderbolts specs over the Evos specs to begin with 6mos ago, obviously I'd pick the Thunderbolt spec sheet.

Dont get too sensitive folks. Im not knocking anybody or anything. Never said the Thunderbolt sucked, haha.

So an additional core is a "blown out" upgrade. But a completely overhauled CPU with a dramatically improved GPU is a "slight" upgrade?

I was waiting to see if anyone would catch your analogy - which required remembering what a Pentium D actually was....

It's people that really don't understand hardware. And they won't take the time to learn about bit. "Pentium D, I haven't heard about that one recently. It must be an old single core."

Yes, I was being facetious about Qualcomm.

The funny thing about the Pentium D was that it wasn't really "dual core". It was 2 Pentium 4's side by side on the same die. PCs with the Pentium D perform much more like the old 2 CPU socket workstations than a dual core machine. It was, however, a better performer in some respects than a single core.

I have a old pentium D runnin XP, spanking a CoreDuo running Vista ;) lol
Joelist you prolly got that .....

Point is dont judge the machine based solely on specs and speculation!

The Thunderbolt looks like a solid device. It may have some similarities to the EVO... but it is not even close to being the same!

Yeah, it has the same size screen and an 8MP camera. But the TB also has more RAM, different CPU, different buttons, different styling, the new Sense...

I just hope it is easy to root :D

Simply put, it really is an EVO that gets the benefit of generation (and maybe a half) of technological evolution. Yes, its superior. It should be. EVOlution makes that happen by default, does it not?

On the other side of the same token, I really think the EVO should have and could have been a lot more like the the THUNDERBOLT, but I'd be willing to bet it all that the EVO was rushed to market so that Sprint could make that "First with 4G" claim.

That said, I think HTC did a pretty good job with both phones. As an EVO owner, sure, I have a smidgeon of envy that THUNDERBOLT owners get that more evolved processor and the 8GB of onboard that I had hoped the EVO would get back when it was just a rumor, but more than that, I'm glad that Verizon customers now have such a strong, non-vanilla Android alternative to the current vanilla-heavy lineup.

Overall, what I appreciate most is seeing HTC continue to lead in some area of the industry. I hope that being out front, even if at first its only because they're FIRST, pressures HTC to continue to make high quality, thoughtfully designed handsets and to continue improving their overall quality and level of innovation.

We all win.

WTF are you smoking? Most of VZW's Android lineup are either Blur'd or have Touchwiz ... the only vanilla Android phone they have is the Droid 1 and that's getting WAY long in the tooth.

The concept would be that its Verizon's version of the Evo.... being that it is so popular on Sprint. Not sure what youre thinking but the Thunderbolt and Evo both use HTC's sense.

Why is everyone so stuck on Evo? The Tbolt Is based off the Desire Hd family.

Take off the battery case and you'll see an exact match for Desire Hd. Lol people compare it to evo like evo is the Htc phone of all Htc phones.

The EVO crowd is very partial to their phone. Not that it's a bad thing, but they're definitely a lot more vocal about their phone than others are.

Probably because they have been waiting forever and finally got a good phone for Sprint! (after all of these years) :D

But honestly, the EVO users are so caught up in the fact that the TB has slightly similar design details and the same size screen that they are actually trying to compare the two devices like apples to apples... when it is really like apples to organges.

Two things right off the bat! The TB has a better CPU (new generation Snapdragon at 800MHz beats the EVO Snapdragon... and the TB has a 1GHz ;)) and more RAM.

I think part of the problem was that lots of people expected or hoped for the tbolt to be a superphone (like the htc ad ... it's not your dream phone its the one after that) and then it turns out to look alot like the evo and have specs NOT ALL THAT MUCH better (i mean, better, but it's not like lightyears ahead).
Anyway the desire comparison is clearly more apt but there is no denying that the tbolt looks like an evo crossed with a nexus 1. Not to mention the kickstand

Don't judge a book (or phone) by its cover.

Once people finally use a Thunderbolt, the bump in specs will be obvious.
