Since I had ordered my Nexus myself a week ago and then gave it to my wife to wrap up and give to me from our daughters as a gift, she wanted to suprise me and give me something else that I wouldnt know about.

Well she went into our local Verizon Corporate store to pick me up a Razr to "go along" with my Nexus..... then something strange happened..... the Verizon employee talker her out of buying me the Razr! He told her that the Razr is more durable but that thew Nexus is better in just about everything else.

I was shocked to hear this just because I have read time after time of people going in to buy the Nexus only to be steered towards the Razr.

I really think the myth of "Verizon hates the Nexus" needs to die. A couple of the VZW people I spoke with were so high on the GN that two of them said they thought it would be "the iPhone killer." They were full of nothing but praise and admiration of the device.

Every Verizon rep I spoke with in person, on the phone, and online couldn't wait to tell me how bad the Nexus was. This was all pre-launch. It just made me want one even more.

I go to an independent store and the people there recommended I wait for the Nexus when I went in and checked out the Rezound and Razr. The guy there wouldn't stop talking about the Nexus when I went to purchase it last Thursday.

I don't think they hate it, but I do believe VZW wants to sell more RAZRs because of all the VZW software on it. Seeing as how the only VZW apps on the GN are apps to tell info about your account. Just my 2 cents. :)

Actually I wouldnt be surprised if some recommended other phones... Truthfully I dont think this phone is for the average joe... I actually recommended the Rezound to a girl I know. #1 Stuff like facebook integration etc.. She doesnt want to go through downloading stuff like Haxsync just to have fb photos and statuses sync.. Also if I werent on the forums I woudnt have ever known about that app either. #2 I feel like gingerbread has less bugs because its been around longer. Things like screen rotation and certain apps not working will be less of a problem, which in turn will have her less annoyed... #3 Size of the phone and I believe we are early adopters.. We dont mind it but average joe's like it more when things "Just Work". They could care less about updates..

The salesman at the vzw corporate store in my area owned the razr and kept talking about how much he didnt like it. I was comparing between the rezound and razr before I found out about the nexus. When I went back the day the nexus released I compared all three and the salesman gave me unbiased answers about them all. I did need to get the manager to bring out the display nexus since they didnt have anything set up. I would think forcing a phone on some people may drive away a sale.

Lol I was surprised, when I bought mine the guy was explaining the differences to this older gentleman between the nexus and the razr, actually doing a good job UPSELLING the nexus. I told him that's what I was there for because I was sick of my bionic and its locked bootloader.. He said he wouldn't own a phone without being able to run CM7, lol.. I thought they're never supposed to encourage us to unlock and root? ;-)

Well of course they're going to try to talk you out of buying a device that hasn't come out yet, and into buying a device right then and there that they will get commission on...

Its funny you mention them not supposed to encourage rooting. A guy at the Sprint store I go to was running an Incredible on Sprint network...lol. Love the hacks! :D

I went to my Verizon store twice, and both times, any employee near me was going "that is going to be my next phone." None of them recommended the Razr or Rezound. They loved the Nexus!

Well I'm in charge of my purchasing, they knew I was going to get the Nexus and the Nexus only (after I outlined to each rep why I'm getting it), and they got my commission regardless a few days later, so I don't think that's the case.

The day I bought mine the rep seemed rather excited about it. I was the first sale for the day, the first Nexus, and first customer of the day.

Seriously, We love the nexus and everyone at my store always recommends it over other phones. Verizon doesn't push the razr or any other devices. You guys need to get over the whole Verizon hates the nexus , if someone is telling you to buy the razr, thats because they may like it better.

I had to get a new sim card, the guy helping me was very pro Nexus. He mocked the RAZR and Sense, and we both made fun of the iPhone and specifically icloud because of the guy next to me skewering some photo transfer.

I feel like its the uninformed Verizon employees who recommend the RAZR because they don't know better.

Or maybe some of them like the Razr better. Your favorite thing is not always everyone's favorite thing. It's easier to sell what you like and a quick glance at this board will let you in know that some people prefer phones that are not the GN.

Standing there mocking other phones and calling other people uninformed for preferring them is just smug.

I was calling the Verizon employers uninformed, presuming that Verizon was telling them to promote the RAZR and they have no opinion of their own.

And excuse me for thinking in an Android forum the occasional iPhone joke was acceptable.

I had the Razr for about a month and when the GN came out, I went back and exchanged it for the GN. The girl who helped thought it was a smart choice. Then immediately asked me if I'd thought about an iphone :D
