Wow, finally something not biased!

They're not always big on Apple.

The original Iphone vs. HTC Evo thread was actually closed down because they thought it was unfair to compare two devices when one is out (Evo) and one is not out yet (iphone).

So they opened this thread back up since the Iphone came out...
It's not technically biased, but you can see that apple hype gets to everyone.
For example, no one was talking about DPI until Apple brought it up. Surgeons use scans at lower DPI than the Evo's screen.

They're not big Apple fans, but you'll see many Apple based posts on their website.
Trust me, they're nothing like TechCrunch.

I really don't understand why everyone says engadget is so Apple biased,i think apple gets good reviews because they make good products.

What's interesting is we are seeing that the evo is the real deal iphone competition... and that the people saying so aren't just avid android users but actual reputable (here comes the arguing) tech blog.

Also, the evo is the best android phone for the next 2 or 3 months?i mean the next few android phones on the horizon won't be invariably better, but by christmas there will be much better android phones, and then what for iphone? I'm sure it will be selling like hotcakes, but, we'll see...

I'm sure if the evo had a higher dpi than the iphone everyone here would be happy about it.

No one is saying Apple does not make a good product. They are saying the site reviewers give Apple products high marks, even when they do not deserve them. The "Iphone 4 Vs Evo" is a good example. The iPhone was not even out yet and they compared the devices based on what Apple said their product was going to be. Not what it was. Also, they never say anything bad about the iPhone. Like until the new one, you could not change the background. They made it out like it was a good thing "to make a consistent user experience" then. Now that you can, they say Apple is innovative and so up on the times. Microsoft Smartphones have been Multitasking since the start, just about every Smartphone (blackberry, pocketPC, windows mobile, WebOS) did multitask. Now that Apple put in partial multitasking, they are innovative and cool. But until they did add it, multitasking was needless and waisted battery power.

That is what makes people who know the facts mad at iPhone reviews. Many even quote Steve Jobs. So I will too "if they want porn, they can get an Android phone." So I did Mr. Jobs, so I did.....

OMG! You are right. It does seem like a fair comparison. This freaks me out. Normally it is all about Apple and how Apple is so cool, and how good the Koolaid Steve Jobs passes out is.

I LOVE how they said it is up to the specific person. OMG again. A reviewer who got that part right! I would never buy a phone that limited what I can do with it, because the company that sells it says I cannot do it (iPhone). I would only accept limits by the hardware setup (Evo). But BOTH have the ability to remove the limits. There are ROMs for the Evo that remove the 30 frame limit, and add WiFi N support. I think HTC will do so themselves sooner or later though. As for Apple, you will never get your porn. They even call Bikini pics porn. Just using it as an example. If I wanted an app of the Satanic bible, I should be able to get it rather a Christian bible thumper at Apple says it is Evil or not, As another example. I do not like being told how to behave. As long as what i am doing does not hurt anyone else (that did volunteer to be hurt doing S&M) , and is still legal. I am all for it, rather I agree with what you are doing or not. I do not need someone else playing moral police for me. I am not going to play moral police for you.

Then there is the data caps AT&T has. They seem to want to get ride of the iPhone. LOL. The post has the Sprint Price wrong though. Unless they forgot to mention a few things. Like it is $79 for the Simply Everything with the Evo. Unlimited data, text, Sprint Navigation (I like it better then Googles) pic mail, and much more like unlimited Mobile to mobile to ANY cell phone. Not just phones on Sprints network. You can call that friend with the iPhone and NOT use your Sprint minutes to do it. Most companies Mobile to Mobile is only to cell phones on their own network. Or those stupid "Circle" things.. But it does not include tethering. Rather doing it wireless or wired. That is another $30 per month, so I guess they are added that. But who really needs to use their cell phone as a wireless router and connect up to 8 computers at one time? I can see a business man, but those will have 3g or 4g cards in the laptop, not tethering on the phone.

One thing I can say is if I go on a long trip. They kids can get their Nintendo DS's online, or their laptops using my phone to keep them silent in the car. I will be more them happy to pay the $30 more for that month. It is not contracted, and you can add it and remove it when needed.

I have a friend who is a borderline crazy Apple user who tried to blow off the fact that Android had surpassed Apple in market share, explaining that people were holding off on getting iPhones because they knew something was coming in June. As I retorted then and the sales figures have borne out, while the iPhone would continue to be a hot seller the vast majority of sales would be coming from previous iPhone users who are locked into their apps and frankly too frightened to let go of Lord Jobs' apron strings to try something else. While Apple would be able to brag about huge-sounding numbers and get free press showing the iSheep queuing up to buy the latest loaf pinched by Steve, the fact is that their once-dominant share of the market was shrinking in the face of the Android Army.

It also has to be said that the launch of the iPhone 4 has been just short of a disaster with bad news coming every couple of days. First it was the iPad privacy leaks; then the iPhone pre-order crash AND more privacy problems; then yellow stains which may go away; then the antenna debacle in which Jobs really shot himself in the foot (while it was in his mouth) by sneering that people with problems should just "hold it differently." Now the iSheep were and are committed to getting the new thing to the tune of 3 out of 4 sold being re-uppers, but to those not locked in, all the bad news is giving them pause. I have another friend who isn't a zealot, but he really loves his iPhone and has a bunch of apps, but all the negative reports are scaring him and I'm exploiting his concerns to hard sell him on an EVO.

With all the bad press and as images of shattered phones seep into the collective consciousness, people are going to hesitate and unlike one short year ago, they actually have real options in smart phones. In June 2009, when the iPhone 3GS - a minor update heralding the slowdown of innovation from Apple because they simply didn't need to with all their flock willing to buy anything - came out, the Pre was just starting it's brief, doomed life and there were (as far as I can tell from Wikipedia) only TWO Android phones had hit the street, both on T-Mobile, the smallest US carrier.

But then what happened? Choice, that's what's happened. Many phones on all the carriers at a respectable price and more and more and MORE are on the way. Verizon's DROID campaign tide has lifted all the 'droid boats; the iPhone 4 is being compared to EVOs and DROID Xes and not being automatically declared the prohibitive winner; and unlike Apple, they don't have their head guru rabidly demanding that people dump a near-universal web plug-in or to not hold the phone in your hand if you're left-handed. 160,000 activations a day puts Android on the track to over 60 million per year and it took THREE years for all iOS products - including iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad - to reach 100 million.

Unlike a mere 12 months ago, there are choices now, soon, and coming to the one phone from the one company on the one carrier. More importantly, the excitement is over for Apple until next June. What you see is what you've got until next June. No new hardware is going to be unveiled in the fall, winter or next spring. No significant updates to match Froyo (or maybe Gingerbread) are going to happen. Apple has been able to make the people swoon for three years because there was no alternatives to compare against it. Now, they seem surprised and frightened that they need to actually compete rather just, "hold up phone, PROFIT!"
