Wow i feel like the step child with the EVO

I am completely happy with the Evo, except that GPU thing. Froyo won't increase framerates by much in 3d games. Those games are all programmed to the Open GL standard, which is exactly what was tested in the last test in that video in question.

That is pretty much the only thing that I am not happy about. I enjoy gaming on my phone, which was the only reason why I am just a tiny bit envious of the iphone, it has a super smooth UI and great 3d games. If all that isn't important to you, then I can understand why you consider the Evo the perfect phone. To me it would be the absolute perfect phone if it had the Ti OMAP chipset of the Droid in it. Here again I can understand where the OP is coming from. The OMAP 3640 chipset that is used in the Droid was available when HTC made the decision to go with the Snapdragon. I am guessing it's all about licensing issues, after all, all HTC phones use Snapdragons. Had HTC went the OMAP route, we would not be having this discussion.

Yeah, it's just a benchmark test, but it is a rather powerful one IF, and that's a big IF, you are into gaming on your phone. So cut the guy some slack, as far as his gripe about the benchmark is concerned he is right. He is wrong when whining about the other benchmarks in that video and comparing it to the Nexus 1, after all, it ran a built of Froyo, the Evo didn't.

I admit the new Droid CPU is better than my nexus. But you can't always chase the next best phone cause they are being released at an insane pace in 2010. I've learned to love my phone for the full package, example none of these phones even come close to touching the overall build quality and materials of my nexus one. This thing is a superb machine and form factor, with the amoled screen colors destroying the regular lcd phones. So I'm happy:-)

I agree, and to me the total package would have been the chipset from the Droid, but keep the rest of the Evo as is, well, and maybe that extra onboard memory...but I don't wanna be greedy... ;)

To the OP, what do you want to hear? What is your point? Do you want someone to talk you out of buying a Droid X?
Do you realize you are jumping to a carrier and phone because of a benchmark test that you dont even understand? How smart are you? You dont know the difference unless you run some benchmark that doesnt mean much in daily use. Shouldnt you focus on the things that make your phone more enjoyable in daily use. Like Sense UI vs Moto Blur? That is what you will be using everyday. Plus when 2.2 is released on the phones their performances will both go up big time. In fact with 2.1 and Sense the EVO has been shown in test to run faster than the iPhone 4. Many would say it takes better pictures also.

You really need to stop watching a benchmark test and thinking it actually matters. What application will run any different on the droid X vs the EVO?

The answer is none. Because apps are designed to be sold to as many people as possible so they are created to run on the majority of phones. Not custom designed to make sure they take advantage of one benchmark test on one phone.

And if you want an iphone go buy one. Whats holding you back? Go play with the little screen. You obviously cant appreciate the value of 4.3inches.

Outstanding response. I said the same thing in the benchmark testing video post.

Over the three weeks I've had it, I don't even think it's a very good phone anymore. I think it could have been, and I think it should have been, but it's not. Almost all the major selling points Sprint and HTC used have turned into shortcomings. It does 720p video? Yeah, well it doesn't do it well enough to even bother using. It's got 4G? Well, it kills your battery life enough to not even bother with it. But wait, its got a huge screen! Yeah, well, I'll give them that.

It should be the most awesome phone ever, and I should love it. But, I don't, because, regardless of how good or bad it is, it's a disappointment. I expected more, and it didn't deliver. Every awesome feature it has an asterisk next to it.

I just picked up an HTC Incredible, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm liking it more. Regardless of it having the same trashy camera.
+1

Powerful statement.

My buddy bought the iPhone 4, display is sweet but that screen looks tiny and I can't go back to anything smaller than 4.3 inch now. Plus I love Android and Google voice.

Seriously? Come on man.... are you 5? If that was the case I would buy an I phone with and bow to the apple dictatorship. I was simply expressing my concerns and how it didn't live up to what I expected out of a flag ship super phone.

I can deal with having my phone be dated in 6 months, but 3 weeks seeing a phone do what its supposed to and what I thought the evo would do blows.

And to everyone that argues, it does what a phone is suppose to "make calls"...seriously if that's all I wanted I would have bought a basic flip phone. If you market your flag ship phone as a powerhouse beast, it should deliver

Unfortunately, you are living a life of unrealistic expectations, which is always the foundation behind posts like this.

If you were expecting perfection, you will never be satisfied with a phone. I bought the Pre and have had a wonderful time with it. However, it has its problems and I am counting down the days to when I can upgrade (July 1st).

I have the following expectations regarding the EVO:

1. It will make and receive phone calls.
2. I can text message.
3. It has a nice screen.
4. I can surf the web.
5. I can download interesting apps.

Anything above that is pure gravy.

But going in expecting the EVO to be a device that can rival a Canon camcorder, a fully loaded state of the art desktop computer, and having an application that will all but fix dinner, you will always be disappointed.

Always.

The Pre, the iPhone, the EVO, the DroidX, and any other cell phone on the market from disposable to fully loaded is a tool, plain and simple.

No tool can do everything nor were tools meant to be panaceas.

Lower your expectations and do your homework and you will be satisfied.

Expect a cell phone, no matter the specs, to make your life rich and rewarding and you will never be satisfied.

I have a iphone 3G and so want to leave steve jobs play ground. my contract with the iphone is up in two weeks then EVO here i come. iphone 4 has some cool features all of which have been crippled by att got iOS4 on my 3G iphone i got folders big wup! steve says thats all i can have unless i buy his new phone which has yellow spots you have to hold just a certain way to get reception finger prints on the back as well as front, steve says what apps you can have and which you can't, enough! 600,000 apple fan boys can be wrong!

I currently lease a 2008 Chevy Malibu. Last year, a new version came out. My car is no longer the newest one available.....can someone tell me if my car still functions, or do I need to get the newer one? :)

I am with Sprint, beeen with them for about 10 years. Has other carriers had better phones than sprint, or have a phone that I would like? Over the 10 years, most definately. Did I switch? NO!, Why? Beacause you cant beat Sprints plans. When you put data, and mins for what you pay.... You can't beat Sprint.
The EVO is the best phone Sprint offers, bar NONE... All in all, its as good a smart phone as anything out there or coming in the next few months.
Enjoy whatever phone you choose to whine about next.

You know, you can tell the cap is there just by using it. You don't need a benchmark to see that it's there. It's gonna really annoy a tech junkie.

QQ more, no matter what phone you buy. There will always be something that will over shadow "Older" phones. You can wait until a really good phone comes out.. then another phone comes out and overshadows it... or you can just suck it up and buy a phone.

Go figure... I love the kickstand, and the pregnant X doesn't have one. 3d games? Seriously? Is that what this argument is about?

No front camera, no 4g, no Sprint who lets me upgrade phones every year and gives me a 25% discount, and no truly unlimited data with no caps. But 3d games look great. LOL.

Just take back your phone every 30 days, because you're going to be tortured every month with a new announcement. And we'll be enjoying out phones. ;)

I just got my EVO today and I think that it is awesome. I have never seen a device that was so great. I knew that it was you.g to be a winner, but I didn't think that it was going to be this good. The screen is huge. I have no complaints but I am in day one.

I normally just hang around and read posts but i get tired of reading these crazy posts, hands down the evo is the best overall android phone - period, if you consider all the features they stuffed into this phone then how can any phone really compare. most of the phones people are taking about share a few features in common but not all of them. HTC and Sprint were bold enough to put a ton of new featues into a touch screen phone big enough that u can really watch a movie on it and type a real letter or email without all the half words. I mean really, these other phones have like one or two comparable features and your mad because they are slightly better, who cares, if htc made a phone with a HD video camera only, no 4g, hotspot, android, 4.3 sceen, hdmi out or what ever the list goes on, then it would prob be the greatest of that one feature for a month or two. but they chosed to build the best overall phone with a great wireless provider at a great price. if you want a camera get a kodak, more memory get a bigger micro sd, dont even hand me the junk about more money for the sd either, we all spend way more then we need for these phones and the the other toys we love. So in closing, thanks Google, Sprint and HTC, I Love my Evo and everyone whos see's it is blown away

Every device will have its drawbacks and in the end some improvements will be made for me the bottom line is the EVO is made by HTC that puts it out ahead of the Droid X. Sprint is my service provider the EVO is the best device that is offered by them so I am happy even knowing that the Droid X has some advantages. Once froyo is available for devices like the EVO some of the Droid X advantages will be erased. Don't forgery sense UI.

If you never saw that video, you'd never know. Stop whining and enjoy your phone.

Give me an f'ing break. I'm so tired of these threads. Why is it that they always seem to come from someone with no prior posts? It's hard to believe these people have any motive but to criticize the Evo.

If you really think the iPhone is better than the Evo, go buy one. Enjoy having a locked down platform that doesn't do real multi-tasking, has antenna problems that cause horrible reception, does video chat only over wi-fi (and only with other iPhone 4G phones) and is far less flexible in all respects. Other than higher quality video and a cooler look, the iPhone doesn't hold a candle to the Evo.

Is the Droid X better? I'd say in some respects yes, in others no. But don't forget it'll cost you a bunch more money on Verizon than on Sprint for a similar plan. And it'll be eclipsed by something "better" before the end of the year. If you're always waiting for the next best phone, you'll never buy anything.

Honestly, what does the Droid do that the EVO doesn't that really makes a difference in your use of the phone?

This is my first post and im kinda buzzed right now s0 flame on....

I have been a blackberry user for the past few years and thought I finally found my phone of the future (2years at least) with the EVO...even bought it on June 4th. As my 30 days approaches I can only say I feel a little Jilted as Iphone4 and Droid x is released and is making EVO look more and more like the dumbest of the super smart phones.

Part of this is my fault, I am a gadget nut and love tech, so therefore I look on message boards and read all the articles therefore im not blind to small problems. I showed my buddy my evo and he drooled all over it and i felt stupid pointing out the flaws with my evo. I was fine with the light leakage, fine with the poor wifi, fine with the camera that is scratch prone, even fine with the battery life, but i cant get over the 30 fps and how poorly the EVO compares to the Droid X and Nexus 1 in benchmark tests. It make me sick watching that video and how this powerhouse of a phone stacks up so poorly.

Yes My EVO has 4g (not in my area) and video chat feature, but now that I have the phone I have only used it twice to show off to my buddies. I really cant see myself ever using this on a daily basis. But I really think Im at the point where Im gonna waive the white flag before my 30 days is up and move to verizon and preorder the droid x. Ugh, it just sucks. I had so much built up in the EVO and while parts have delivered there have been major flaws that Im sure will be fixed in the EVO2, but at that point im still stuck with this phone for 1 more year.

Just kinda makes me think i wish I would have been dumb/blind/ignorant of all the details about great smart phones and just been amazed at the live wallpaper.

You are not alone
