I think your right. However, who cared about that phone? It has windows mobile, and its a Tmobile phone. The EVO was the first big phone anyone cared about to the best of my knowledge.

I got asked... that's the new ifone... the first week I got it.... " no its an evo"... the phone with a kick stand lol

I went downstairs of my office to take some test photos with the wide angle lens I bought for the EVO. As I was taking shots a guy from another office came down for a smoke break and must have been checking out the thing.. probably thinking it was a camera. As I walked back towards the elevator to go back up he quickly put out his cig and started running for the same elevator. He looks over and asks "is that a camera? I said naw its a phone... "What kind of phone?" an EVO.... "Oooooh.. H-T-Ceeee".

The funny part was he just started smoking, frantically put out his cig and sprinted to the lobby just to check it out... I lol'd.... just a little.

its weird that everyone thinks that a cool looking touchscreen device is an iPhone. I get asked the same question all the time. They almost seem disappointed when I tell them that it isn't an iPhone. I think that android is still new to the average consumer. In a couple of years they Qik be asking people is that the new Google phone?

Just tell them it prints money...

Grants you 3 wishes one being a new Iphone... :p

Haha when people ask if it's the new iphone, you just need to give them the link for that youtube video and walk away. Into a sunset with badass background music playing if possible. Years later you will still be spoken of in legend.

Thats great lol I had same reaction from some coworkers. One actually liked the size and speed of phone he got one the next day lol.

I had the same thing from co-workers. Now two others have it, and a couple of the execs want to switch from iPhones to Android devices - and since I got company mail working on my Evo, suddenly I'm the "android guy" at work (which I can TOTALLY live with as part of my IT job responsibilities). ;-)

Sadly though, I wish more people knew about the phone.
I blame HTC... because they release phones with new names all the time...

They need to make a series or a line of smartphones.
Like the next one should be HTC Evo 2 or something... because with a new name every device they make... here's the question EVERYONE gets:

"Is it like the Iphone?"
I blame Sprint.

Sprint's falling things ads were almost as bad a the creepy vampire girl ads for the Pre last summer. No wonder so few have any idea about the EVO.

I agree that HTC needs to think about their phones as models. You can go to a Honda dealer and ask to see the new Accord and see the Accord DX, Accord LX. etc. People cannot keep up with the names HTC constantly changes. Users should be able to go to the Sprint store and ask for the "new EVO".

I Think that Pre Add was Palm. One of the worst Adds ever. Sprint did a FANTASTICO job on the "SPRINT NOW" Campaigne. I think they should continue those, it made Sprint so Innovative.

...it shouldve taken place in a Quizno's. But I won't hold it against ya...

+1 The Sprint store i work at is right next door to a Quiznos, best Broccoli and Cheddar Soup and free soda refills!!!!! Quiznos rocks!!!!! lol

Love my EVO. But you have to admit the Evo ads are kind of lame. Verizon's Droid ads kick ass.

Actually I like kinda like the Evo ads. They aren't creepy like the Pre ads, and they're in line with the NOW Network ads, which no one can deny are brilliant.

They aren't on par with the Droid ads, but the Droid is aimed primarily at males whereas the Evo ads target everyone, not just one demographic. VZW can afford to market the Droid line to guys because they market the Pre Plus to women.

When my friend saw my phone, he asked, "Why is your phone so big?" I thought that was funny. What do you say to that? Because . . . it's uh . . . awesome?

In a year, the EVO won't be big. It will be typical.

Bingo!

I expect to see a number of 5" phones within 2 years and probably a lot sooner. Now, if only the phone makers would bite the bullet and make them fat enough to hold a decent sized battery -- or at least offer an Extended Duration version with a larger battery. Give me a phone with a 5" screen with 1920x1080 resolution and a battery in the 3000mAHr range and I'd be real happy.

Having the other features the Evo has is great but for me the large screen is THE selling point. While were at it, I'll use some of the room the larger phone has to offer to use a full SD card instead of a uSD. That way you don't have to pay 2X-4X for the same capacity. We should start seeing SDXC cards in the 64GB range soon and then, within a year, we should see the first 128GB SDXC cards -- I'd love that capacity for my phone.

I have seen quite a few women with Droid Incredibles. I just met a fifty year old woman with one.

Actually, I think the demographic for the Evo is nearly 50% women from what I can tell. The idea that a larger phone would only appeal to big guys is, well, ridiculous. Now we just need to get the guys that ARE whining about the size of the Evo to grow a pair!

The EVO is my wife's first smart phone, and she loves it. And when we were on vacation last week, a friend of hers saw our EVO's and she had one three days later (would of had it sooner but it took three days to find one, lol).

I wouldn't say Sprint failed with the Evo.

Granted, the people I encounter that recognize it (well sorta) ask, "Is that the new Sprint phone?" but at least they know it's out there. I did have an iPhone user ask me if my Evo was the new iPhone which I thought was kind of odd.

But, the popularity of the iPhone is unlikely to ever be repeated. The iPhone rode the coat tails of the iPod, so it already had a huge foot in the door before it was released or advertised. Plus, mainstream culture has done just as much to advertise the iPhone as any of the "There's an app for that" commercials. And even then, those commercials were for the iPhone, but it was more the apps selling the phone than the phone itself. Motorola is taking a cue from this. After taking a few jabs at the shortcomings of the iPhone, most of the ads now are for third party apps.

But, yeah, it's hard to say Sprint failed, advertising-wise at least, when all the phones they ordered have been long sold out and any ones that hit the shelves are gone within hours.
