I recently got google nest for wifi. It tells me if I turn on WPA3 some older hardware may have trouble connecting. I have a Nexus 9 tablet and the original Pixel phone. Are they compatible with WPA3?

No, they are not. Android 10 or newer is required for WPA3. https://source.android.com/devices/tech/connect/wifi-wpa3-owe
