1. Can you flash Custom ROMs with his toolkit? or is that not possible?

2. Is it safe to update the Nexus 7 even though I'm unlocked/rooted?

3. Does his toolkit already install TWRP recovery in the process?

If you haven't turned on usb debugging mode in settings, do it before reading any further.

1. yes you can flash custom roms with the tool kit. Just "launch" advanced utilities, and check the circle for where your rom.zip, this is located under "flash zips". Form here it differs depending on which one you pick.

If your rom is on your computer check the box for "configure suggestions", then check the circle for "rom/aio.zip". I would also make a nandroid backup first. After that it will automatically backup your stuff before flashing the rom. Now click "add zips to flash", locate the rom.zip file you are going to use and click "open". Now just click "confirm operation" and it will do all the work for you.

Sorry no pictures for flashing with the zip file will it is still on your nexus , but I'll try and walk you through it.

Check the the circle for "file is already on sdcard", a window will pop up click "rom/aio.zip", it will now boot your nexus into TWRP and a instruction window will pop up on your computer, follow the instructions in this window and you will be all set.

Here is what the instructional window says:

"Your device will now boot into temporary TWRP...
The following instructions are generic steps for flashing the ROM/AIO.zip:
- If the dev of the zip provided different instructions, then use those instead.
Step 1: Wipe data/factory reset
- Select 'wipe' > 'Factory Reset' > 'Swipe to Wipe'
Step 2: Wipe dalvik cache
- Select 'Wipe' > 'Dalvik Cache' > 'Swipe to Wipe'
Step 3: Flash the zip
- Select 'Install' > Navigate to the zip...
- 'Swipe to Confirm Flash'
Step 5: Go back to main menu and reboot system
- Select 'Reboot' > 'System'"

2. I wouldn't bother updating your nexus to the newest version before doing it seeing as you're going to flash a custom rom into your nexus. i just hope the rom is already up to date before you flash it.

If you do plan to leave your nexus stock but unlocked and rooted you should also read http://forums.androidcentral.com/ne...23-problems-updating-4-2-2-a.html#post2593727 it's my thread talking about my problem of trying to update my nexus will having a custom recovery (TWRP) on it and how to go about updating it.

3. yes the tool does install TWRP when you unlock and root your nexus with it.
