X2 Tether

Hello, I am new to this site, and I currently have an iPhone4 for verizon and I have a friend wanting to trade me for his X2. I have jailbroken my iPhone and I use it to tether on my laptop, because I don't have internet. My question is, if I trade him for the X2, will I be able to Jailbreak or Root the phone to have tethering capabilities? Thanks
