Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T - Blocked numbers are not being blocked

MIUI Global 12.0.2, Android 10

If I block a number at 08:44 (see photo) that same number is allowed to ring again at 12:33 and I have to block it again. See also the calls at 10:31 and ’11 minutes ago’, which equates to around 14:25 hours.

I have not enabled "Block calls from unidentified callers" but I expected that numbers I had already blocked would not be allowed to ring again but they do.

Is this failure to block numbers a known problem? If so then is there anything I can do to make it work?

Welcome to Android Central! Does it ring once and then go straight to voicemail, or does it ring until you answer it or the caller hangs up?

@B. Diddy - Thank you. The phone rings until I answer it and then an American sounding recorded voice says "This is Officer...." scam/extortion type message plays. I end the call instantly and then block the number manually but the same number is allowed to ring again later.

Having said all that I realise that all 4 calls happened on a single day (last Wednesday) and there have been no more since. Could it be that the call blocking requires some servers to update overnight and the blocking doesn't become effective until next day? I thought it would be the phone that blocks the numbers and it would have immediate effect. Maybe I am clutching at straws by saying this.

That sounds like a good theory -- but it will probably also be hard to test, because these feculent spammers typically use either a bank of numbers that they rotate through, or spoof a real number (and they typically won't spoof the same number more than a few times).
