xml editting

I want my status bar transparent. So I replaced the status_bar_background.png with my own version that is transparent. It kinda worked, but there is always a background behind the background, so it is never transparent right to the wallpaper... so I figured that I should edit the xml files. However, I have no clue how to do that, because when I try to open the xml files, they won't open, and google has yeilded extremely confusing stuff. Anyone know how to edit the xml files?

From your PC you can do it in Notepad. From your phone, you can edit xml's by opening them in File Manager.

This post will give you a start on xml editing. You will need to use apk manager and a good text editor to modify xml files.
