They announced at Google I/O that jellybean will be pushed to the Xoom in July. I'm going to assume that is the wifi Xoom but they didn't say that. How many months after the wifi Xoom got ICS was it before the LTE version came around. Maybe we will get jellybean in the same amount of time for the LTE models.

All I know is that when the OTA update goes live for the non-verizon models (I own a gnex too), I'm flashing the spiffed up awesomeness instead of waiting on Verizon's slack-a**.

Just remember Jelly Bean will not have Flash, Adobe will not release mobile flash for 4.1. In fact Adobe will be removing the Mobile Flash player from the Play store August 15th. Only devices that will get Flash security updates are those that shipped with Flash. So I assume the Xoom will get updates. Either way this is not a big deal for me since I don't use it on my desktop, tablet or phone. But if you use Flash you may want to stick with ICS.

Verizon dragged their heels on the ICS update for XOOM. It was a "back burner" project. Unfortunately, Verizon-XOOM owners aren't very numerous and don't command much respect as a segment of their business.

The XOOM is still considered a GED by Google and will get Jelly Bean. Also, Google now fully owns Motorola... that deal was finally closed. One would hope Google realizes they need to offer a hand of reconciliation and push Verizon to approve the OTA for the XOOM a bit faster this time.

That being said, having one company push another company to do something is always like pushing on a rope.

Bottom line: If you have a Verizon XOOM, you should root and just run one of the many ROMs out there. I had ICS for the longest time before the official release. It's easy. A child could do it. Just follow the instructions step by step. There's no reason anyone has to wait.

Jelly Bean is already being ported to the XOOM (see one of the XDA threads) and Jelly Bean code won't be released for another week! If you're rooted, you'll be running Jelly Bean on a Verizon XOOM by the end of August. If not... well... good luck waiting.

If the Verizon 4g Xoom doesn't have JB by the end of the year I will pass my Xoom off to the kids and get a Nexus 10 for myself.
