XOOM screen ripples and distortion - video

Just purchased a xoom a few days ago and my screen is doing the same thing. Read around and nobody really confirmed if it's a flaw or this is normal??? Any input anyone?

I own three... one for my wife, my son (who abuses it IMHO) and I. None of them exhibit this.

My associates have slowly embraced Honeycomb tablets, most of which have the XOOM. I haven't seen or heard of this happening to them. That's a pool of about 15 guys with XOOMs.

Considering that limited sample, I'd say it is some kind of flaw and not normal. Nobody here will be able to tell you definitively if this is common or rare fault or not... unless they work in QA at Mot.

Mine is definitely not as bad as the one in the video.... You have to push somewhat hard But I'm scared it'll get worse. I was playing with the floor model at bestbuy and it did the same thing... But alot worse.

Yours doesn't ripple even if you press down slightly hard???

Why would you press down slightly hard?! It's a touch screen... so... I touch it.

I'm not going to try that, but I would assume if you press down hard (slightly or otherwise), you will force contact with the active display and cause artifacts while it's on. I also suspect this would happen with any large display tablet on the market. Gorilla glass is tough, but let's be reasonable.

If you want to experiment with hard touches, I recommend you go do that to a story display. Don't do it to your own unit.

All that being said, I've had my XOOM since it's initial release in February. It's gone half way around the world and back a couple of times... stuffed in a soft briefcase along with various hard objects pressing on it... stuffed into the back of a airline seat... accidently stepped on by my son (approximately 160 pounds)... dropped from a table top twice (once to a thinly carpeted floor and once to a wooden floor)... and generally mis-handled by too many people I've shown it to (one guy started knocking on the gorilla glass with his knuckle, like he was knocking on a door... don't ask!)

After all that, it looks and performs like new. If you have to press on it slightly hard to see it, I wouldn't worry about it. It's not a defect, it's intentional abuse. ;-)

Haha yeah I don't ever press down harder than I need to (and i don't knock on it either LOL poor Xoom!) :(

I actually noticed it when I was cleaning the screen with a cloth and found it weird how it only occurs in that one spot. Pressure point or something idk.

Thanks for the input friend
