Hello Z1s owners.

I'm a T-Mobile user and I am seriously considering getting the Xperia Z3 when it comes out in a few months. Currently, I'm a Nexus 5 user so I'm used to getting updates often and soon after they become available.

So, my question is does T-Mobile update the z1s often?
Right now my nexus 5 has Kit Kat 4.4.4 and its had it for a while now. What version are your Z1s's running?
Are you guys happy with your phones overall?

No other company will update as fast as Google and Moto so if that's important to you, don't get anything from any other companies. With that being said, my experience is that Sony phones get updated pretty late in the game. However they did promise to update as fast as possible but that it would still be up to the carriers to release it. We have KK 4.4.4 now also. Another thing with Tmo Sony phones, locked bootloaders so if you're into custom roms, probably want to stay clear of Sony phones on Tmo.

Thanks for the warning.

Np, I love Sony phones but the ones on Tmo suck cuz of all the limitations. You can still get a non Tmo Z3 which may have boot loader unlockable. Probably cost a pretty penny though...

Thats the problem, I dont get good reception on T-Mobile where I live, so I decided that my next phone has to a be a Tmo branded phone so i can use wifi calling. If not for that, stick with nexus phones. I really wish I tmo would make a wifi calling app. I've looked into alternatives for wifi calling but they all have limitations I'd rather not deal with.

Carriers used to give out free units that help with reception buy with the advent of Wi-Fi calling, don't believe they offer those anymore, at least not for free... well, u gotta deal with it however best u can. Good luck.

What limitations concern you? Outside of the delayed upgrade cycle (mostly as a result of TMo's certification process), I don't see limitations. In fact, the TMo variant of the Z series (Z1s and Z3) are the only Xperia's that offer 32gb of internal storage.

Just curious.

Locked bootloader is the main one. Would love AOSP and other custom roms like cyanogenmod, MIUI, etc

Yup. Still trying to figure out a way to unlock my phone. Nobody knows anything.

I keep hoping that one of the upcoming Uncarrier Tmo intiatives is unlocked phones for all. That would make a splash! No contracts, unlimited, unleashed (international freedom) and unlocked!

Yeah, they should definitely do that since they charging full price now anyways, no reason to lock phones though they do always unlock when paid in full.
