Xperia Z2: I want to try this phone....

Re: I want to try this phone....

Sorry for hijacking the thread!

Although the Z2 really caught my eye, its size is making me a bit apprehensive. The Nexus 5, which is probably the largest I'll go, is a centimeter shorter and 5mm narrower than the Z2. While not necessarily a dealbreaker, the phone will really have to impress me. A Google Edition will definitely sway my opinion in the Z2's favor!

No worries. :)

Yeah physical size is a concern for sure, especially after using the Moto X for a little while. One thing I've learned though is that if I think I can't adjust to a size I'm wrong. I'll adjust to whatever if the rest of the device is compelling enough. Remember, years ago the original Evo 4G was "gigantic" and "way too big" etc. :P

Agreed. However, if a device requires a fanny pack to carry around comfortably, it's a sign that it's too cumbersome. I thought the Note 3 was ridiculous until, earlier today, I ran into a colleague who had a Nokia 1520. That thing is absolutely ridiculous and not in a good way!

The flip side is that battery life typically great and everything is easily viewable.

Re: I want to try this phone....

Just remember if you want the Xperia Z2 and want to use AT&T, I'm guessing an unlocked model will be available. That's what I'm waiting for. How much, who knows?

On another note, I hope the hideous audio I've heard from the 4K video clips I've seen, is not a problem and just the result of an issue with the sample phone or operator error.

So....about the Z2. :P

It doesn't have front facing speakers, at least not in the pictures.

It will probably be on AT&T or T-Mo (most likely AT&T given the bands) if any US carriers pick it up that is.

It has front facing speakers, they aren't as apparent as the HTC one speakers though. much slimmer opening at the top and bottom of the phone

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't really notice I guess. That actually puts it higher on my list then.

Re: I want to try this phone....

Is it just me or is the top/left speaker look like it's got a green LED lighting it? Or is that just a trick of the lighting there?

Anyway the speakers sound great, but a 4x4 grid is such a waste of pixels on a 5 inch screen...
from my understanding that's the LED notification light.

I want to try a Z2 Compact.

I mentioned this is another thread, but I think it's important enough to mention here again.

All the videos clips coming from the Mobile show that were shot on the Z2 have this horrible audio. It's muffled and distorted. This really has me concerned. There are now also 2 clips that have surfaced that were shot outside in 4K and these too also have this really bad audio. A number of people have mentioned it and I find it hard to believe that Sony has produced this phone with a mike that's so poor. Some have suggested it's because of the waterproof design. If that's the case and it's not a defect, this is really bad.

My concern, as I think about it, goes beyond just using the camera's video recording, but also using the Z2 just as a phone. If it uses the same mike as the mike that's recording the audio for the video, then we have a really serious problem.

The only thing I can hope is that the Z2 phones at the show were pre-production and had some issue.

Anyone see these videos and know what I'm talking about?

It looks like a really nice phone. I've like the ID of Xperia devices since the Z, but they lacked in other areas.

The Z2 looks like it's finally going to be a top tier device in all respects. The fastest Snapdragon available, a focus on camera performance, and a much improved display that looks like it'll rival competitors (finally!).

Anybody else feel the same way?

Not really. The Z1 was already at least as good as anything anyone else made in 2013. No offense but I really get disappointed when people repeat things the tech media (whom I am more and more coming to view as being akin to Fox News) blows out of proportion. The display on the previous Z phones was never an 'issue'. It was just a bit of a wash out when viewed at angles (an uncommon occurrence even). A slight con to the phone's many pros and was no more of a big deal than any issues that are present on Samsung, HTC, Motorola, LG or any other phones that American carriers sell.

It's all opinion, but even if it was all the reviewers putting bad marks on the screen, they got their point through. I was in agreement with them. Now that that's fixed, I'm picking this up. All the other little upgrades/updates are just more pluses to add on

I love all the Changes and Features they made. I'm really loving it and can't wait to get my hands on it!

The Z2 seems to be a mix of...

hTc One with Build Quality, Front Stereo Speakers.

LG G2 with the Thin Bezels and KnockOn, tap the screen twice to turn on.

I saw the issue, which wasn't an issue with the One, for example. Camera performance in low light also wasn't great.

Those were my two issues with it.
