Android Central Question

When composing emails in Yahoo Mail Android App recently, suggested contacts' email addresses stopped automatically showing up in the address fields when I enter a name or keyword in the address fields. For example, it used to be that when I typed "Frank" in the "To" field, I would get a list of all contacts named Frank or email addresses including phrases close to "Frank" and I could select the one I wanted to send to. Now, I type a name or keyword and nothing comes up, so I must either enter the address manually or go through my contact list on my phone and select send email-->Yahoo Mail. There is apparently no contact list available in the Yahoo Mail app. I have tried reinstalling, syncing contacts, and have confirmed that my Yahoo contacts list is still populated and synced.

I've been looking at this post on and off throughout the night and the only things I can think of are;

Some change to your autofill setting. Either for the keyboard or for Google. I only feel about 40% on this one because it's not really in the app but I know you should be able to turn this off in both of those places and it kind of works along the same lines...

Was the history cleared? Did you clear the cache or data for this app? You may not have even realized you were doing this if you did it via a cleaner app, like Ccleaner. Have you tried sending a email to the same person two times since you noticed this? So you were forced to manually enter the address initially but then the next time it was there? That would support this just being a cleared app memory. Maybe 70/30 on this one.

Have you checked the app settings? I'm not sure if you would be looking for autofill options, suggestion options or something obscure, but you could try resetting the app options to default if that broad option exists in the app. Only about 20/80 on this because I would assume that you would look at the app options first before posting a question.

When all else fails uninstall the app and install it again. You shouldn't loose any emails that were sent or received because those are stored in the cloud. What you might loose are drafts that are stored on the device. I'm feeling 90/10 on this restoring your suggestions but it still leaves why. My why feeling is a glitchy app update. Since apps get updated seemingly randomly who knows what the device was doing when this was updating but a fresh install should clear up any glitchyness.

I am the original poster (I wasn't signed in when I posted) replying to comments thus far. Thank you for the responses, especially VidJunky who was "looking at this post on and off throughout the night"--I truly appreciate the effort although I assure you I'm not worth much more than a giggle and a fart. Also, I should have noted in the original post that if I try to compose the message in a 3rd party email app (Edison), the autopopulate works fine, and Yahoo app will autopopulate a contact that I know was created by downloading a V-card sent to my Yahoo email. If anyone with a nerd gene needs to continue hashing this to avoid psychosis, please see replies/info below. Thanks again.
Re: Autofill, the only options labeled as such in the latest update are for populating user account information so they could push Samsung Pass. In the past I used Google service for autofill and never had a problem in the Yahoo app (although the latest rash of updates has created several compatibility issues, most notably with my work profile). I believe the above effectively rules out an Autofill issue but please let me know if you disagree or I am not addressing the particular function you were referencing.
Re: memory/history, I did not clear the cache until after the issue began and then only as a last resort on the infinitesimal chance a contact from a deactivated account was causing sync to outright fail (don't ask me to explain my reasoning on that one--I cannot contrive any reason why a failed sync would otherwise affect the autopopulate from contacts that never went away but I am a desperate man). Never cleared the data.
Addresses previously manually entered also do not populate and I can only assume did not before I cleared the cache but I don't recall whether I tried it specifically before I cleared the cache.
Contacts sync has always been activated in the app settings, as has the contacts permission, and according to the contact app sync records, sync has been at least initiated on schedule but I'm not sure how to tell if the syncs were successful, and [see above why this is in any event the last act of a desparate man].
Grudgingly did do the reinstall to no avail when this first started happening.
Any further input is greatly appreciated. I am secure enough to say that I actually like the Yahoo mail app and would prefer to continue using it as the day-to-day interface although a workaround does exist in the third party app, as mentioned above.

GOT IT--HERE'S THE FIX: Leave the Yahoo app installed, but remove the Yahoo accounts from the "Accounts" menu in the general settings. Add the accounts back to "Accounts" menu in the general settings. Enjoy toast. Think of me.

Vid junky great , thanks for signing back and letting us know.

These are the types of solutions that unless someone else has the same app setup you may never get an answer. So glad you came back and gave us your solution so maybe someone else looking to solve the same issue can find it and fix their device.
